SSV Works Polaris RZR XP4 Turbo S Build

Polaris RZR XP4 Turbo S

When you’re in the business of “sound” that doesn’t mean you throw the baddest stereo system you’ve got into a stock UTV and call it good. While that may suffice for other audio providers, SSV Works is committed to building a machine that looks as good as it sounds. Their new Polaris RZR XP4 Turbo S show vehicle is exactly that, featuring products from many of the most recognizable companies in the industry.

The Polaris RZR XP4 Turbo S was just introduced last year and is the first-ever four-seat off-road monster to boast a 72-inch stance, 32-inch standard tires, exclusive DYNAMIX™ Active Suspension and 16-inch ground clearance to devour virtually everything in its path.

When building a custom machine integration is paramount; any components that don’t work seamlessly only serve to create more work for the builder and potentially rob performance if the parts are band-aided together. When you’ve got highly advanced electronics like the Polaris Ride Command system, integrating more electronics (like an audio system) and making it all play nice together can be a challenge.

Fortunately for the end user, installation of the new SSV Works Ride Command integration audio kit couldn’t be simpler. The kit is 100% plug and play, meaning there’s no cutting, soldering, crimping or rewiring necessary and the kit significantly improves upon the factory Ride Command Audio system thanks to four 6.5 inch speakers and a 10″ glove box enclosed sub woofer.

Because the system is designed for seamless integration, it works with virtually any factory replacement aftermarket components, like the SDR Motorsports cage, doors, roof, roof rack and spare tire carrier. The speaker pods are not merely repurposed marine speakers but are purpose built for powersports applications. The cage mount pods fit cleanly inside the roll cage without taking up excessive room or requiring extra modification.

From a “functional” perspective, since the theme of this build was overlanding, SSV Works turned to KMC for a set of its XD wheels rolling on big 35-inch ITP Coyote tires. This is an optimal package for rock crawling as it provides extra ground clearance over the machine’s stock 32 inch tires but just in case, a full UHMW skid plate from Factory UTV protects this RZR’s undercarriage. The ITP Coyote tires are the same rubbers as what comes on the machine from the factory only larger, so this is a tried and trusted tire for the rugged terrain this machine will see.

You’ll have no trouble spotting this particular RZR XP4 Turbo S at night thanks to the Buggy Whips whip flags and a host of LEDs found in both the headlights and light bars courtesy of Heretic Studios keep the trail ahead well illuminated. Assault Industries mirrors and front grill dress up the exterior of the vehicle along with a full wrap by Proline Wraps. Inside the cockpit, an Assault steering wheel and shifter replace the stock units and PRP suspension seats ensure the driver and passengers backsides can endure a full day of off-road wheeling.

Last but not least, no one wants a machine that looks trick but sounds stock so a Performance Series dual exhaust from HMF was added. This simple upgrade adds 5-7 horsepower while remaining just 3-6 dB louder than stock.

We spent some time on the trail with SSV Works last month in Moab Utah for the Rally on the Rocks. This event in particular is the perfect opportunity to showcase a build like this because it’s more of a cruising type of event than a wide open land rush. Most people travel together in smaller groups traversing the slick rock trails and simply enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery in North America. Having a top notch audio system to provide the soundtrack to your adventure just makes the experience all the more enjoyable.
