Rugged Radios Installation in our 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3

Rugged Radios

By Jon Crowley

There are a few things I add to every UTV I own and top on that list is communications. Not only so I can easily talk with my passenger, but also so I can communicate with other riders in my group. For more than a decade, my go to for UTV communications has been Rugged Radios out of Arroyo Grande, CA. Not only do they have everything I need for comms, but they are enthusiasts like me that actually use the products they make.

My latest build is a 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 XRS Turbo RR and Rugged Radios has two different radio/intercom mounts for the X3.  For this install, I decided to use their Can-Am X3 Multi-Mount Kit – Top Mount. This mount puts the radio and intercom on top of the dash and includes their multi-mount setup for easy access.

The Radio/Intercom package I chose is the RRP696 2 Person Bluetooth Intercom Builder Kit with M1 Digital Radio. This kit includes:

  • RRP696 Rugged Intercom
  • 12′ Intercom Cables
  • Coil cord driver side push-to-talk
  • Straight cord passenger push-to-talk
  • Active Filter
  • Ground Strap Kit
  • Powerful M1 Digital Mobile Radio
  • VHF 1/2 Wave Antenna
  • 15′ Ft. Antenna Coax Cable with 3/8″ NMO mount

This kit is fairly easy to install and I had it up and running in a couple hours.  Check out the installation below:
