ORBA efforts help raise over $8000.00 for SavetheHammers.org

The Off Road Business Association attended the 6th Running of the Griffin King of the Hammers last week in Johnson Valley, California. Fred and Jeff worked worth California Motorized Recreation Council Leadership and multiple ORBA members to raise much needed funds to help starve off the 29 palms Base expansion efforts that will see the loss of 160,000 acres of the 185,000-acre OHV area. The Johnson Valley OHV area is the Largest OHV area in the United States, and home to the King of the hammers event, which attracted 20,000 spectators and created millions of dollars in economic impact to the Southern California economy. OHV users from around the globe attended the event.

Jeff Knoll attended the Opening Drivers Meeting and shared Base expansion details with the race teams, which prompted teams to open their wallets and donate $2,625.00 on the spot in a matter of minutes. Fred again attended the UTV Drivers meeting and the UTV racers donated an additional $1,100 dollars. ORBA Member SXSPerformance.com promptly donated an additional $500.00 as a result of the generous donations from the UTV racers.

The ORBA Poker walk only generated $200.00 in donations but gave ORBA a great opportunity to educate the general public on the work ORBA is doing with its membership. SXSPerformance.com, Poison Spyder Customs, Trail Gear, Ruff Stuff Specialties, and Torchmate Racing all participated in the Poker walk. Poison Spyder Customs hopes to expand the Poker walk to additional events as they felt it was a fun way to interact with attendees of the event.

Raceline/Allied Wheels a long-standing ORBA member hosted a taco-eating contest on Thursday night and raised an additional $638.00 in donations. Last but not least Torchmate racings Brad and Roger Lovell hosted an auction the month before KOH that put an additional $1,250.00 into the CMRC Save the Hammers account. Perhaps the biggest effort that will come from the KOH event will be the National OHV Lobby Days that we will cover later in this newsletter. Over 3000 fliers where distributed and a unified message of taking the day to visit your local legislator where driven home at KOH.
