This year the Sand Sports Super Show was held September 14-16 at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California. The show has become all about UTVs and if you want to see new products for the sport UTV market segment, the Sand Show is the place to be.
This is the view of Friday night’s open at the Rugged Radios booth. Rugged takes a huge spot in the parade of products and has a ton of show specials, so it was fun to do a little time lapse video to show how crowded the show gets.
We scoured the show looking for the latest and greatest, and here is what we found. If you like to see what is happening in real time during some of these UTV events, be sure to follow us on Instagram – @utvguide.
New UTV Models
UTV Manufacturers are on the gas. With many delivering more that two new models a year, it is an exciting time to be involved in the industry. Polaris, Textron, Can-Am and Yamaha were all big players this year with new sport UTV offerings. No new sport UTV models for Honda or Kawasaki, but we think that may change during 2019. Next year’s show will hopefully be filled by an even more competitive field of sport UTVs.
Polaris pushed the limits of engineering when designing the RZR XP 4 Turbo S. From a reinforced chassis to bigger, stronger axles, Polaris incorporated significant performance upgrades and strengthened nearly every component of the machine. The all-new isolated front drive features three times higher impact strength, while the ROPS, control and trailing arms, and radius rods help handle the extreme force produced by this beast of a machine.
The intelligent, industry-leading DYNAMIX Active Suspension system optimizes every inch of the vehicle’s industry-leading 25-inches of Useable Travel before bottoming out on the skid plate.
The new 2019 Yamaha YXZ1000R / SS boasts enhanced new body styling and design, a larger, relocated radiator, lower-positioned seats, new suspension, new tires and wheels, along with enriched accessory integration.
Also new for the 2019 model year, the YXZ1000R comes pre-wired for incorporating the all-new Yamaha Adventure Pro GPS powered by Magellan, providing off-road enthusiasts the confidence and capability to explore more, and share off-road adventures with friends and family.
The industry-exclusive five-speed sequential shift transmission – now optimized with enhanced gear ratios paired with new 29-inch Maxxis® Bighorn eight-ply tires to provide Proven Off-Road performance in both high- and low-speed situations. New wheel bolt pattern has also been increased to 4/156 for additional strength. Increased clutch durability delivers greater confidence during aggressive operation, while simultaneously improving performance at low speeds.
The new Can-Am Maverick Sport X RC side-by-side vehicle ($21,299 US) comes factory-equipped for rock-crawling with a wider stance, higher clearance and added interior and exterior protection for operation in harsh environments. The inclusion of Smart-Lok* with ROCK mode, high-grade FOX shocks, arched A-arms and larger tires provide exceptional maneuverability when the going gets rough.
New for 2019, the Wildcat XX LTD sports all the features of the Wildcat XX with several additions that make it even easier to take it from the showroom straight to the trail. To protect the vehicle from brush and other trail hazards, the vehicle features front and rear bumpers. Protection for occupants include a half windshield and heavy-duty, marine-grade Bimini Roof featuring a built-in roll-up top with a sun screen for nice days.
Riders also can listen to their favorite tunes while cruising the trails with the vehicle’s factory-installed SSV® stereo system. For superior weather resistance, the audio system includes all marine-grade components, including an integrated amp, two Kicker® speakers, custom enclosures and wiring harness.
