KIGER & HOLZ WIN AGAIN AT THE SILVER STATE 300

Polaris RZR XP

COASTAL/HOLZ RACING BATTLES TO THE END AND WINS!

Lynden, Washington (May 7, 2013) – When the dust settled this past Saturday outside Alamo, Nevada, the Coastl/Holz team had backed up their 2012 Silver State 300 win with another, all in all marking Holz Racing Products third straight win of this event.
After almost seven hours of racing the race came down to a battle between the #1934 Coastal/Holz Racing Products Polaris RZR XP 900 and the #1919 RZR XP 4 of Jagged X‘s Brandon Schueler with Mark Holz taking the win by 1:07.
Like every desert race, this one was a battle of speed, attrition and conditions. When Scott Kiger rolled off the line in 8th position a little before 7 am, he and co-driver Brian MacLean (from Walker Evans Racing) knew they’d be dealing with glaring sun and dust. What they didn’t realize was they’d be battling that dust all day.
After starting first, the #1918 of Cognito came through pit 1 in the physical lead . Within the next 3 minutes the two Jagged X cars, Murray’s and Kiger — would all clear pit 1. The race was on.
Rolling through pit 2 (race mile 73) Kiger had moved into 2nd place behind Cognito and was driving a solid pace. Kiger has adapted well from his back east GNCC woods racing to the wide open, rock & dust filled desert.
Into pit 3 at Caliente for a planned driver change and gas stop. Mark Holz took over driving duties. With a long pit stop, the Coastal/Holz Car gave up spots and settled into fourth position.
Trying to work to the front, Holz was pushing hard and got into some rocks. A quick tire change and back underway. 5 miles later — another flat. Without another spare he was forced to drive it in on the rim.
After a quick stop for two tires, the #1934 was back underway and tracking down the #1919 Jagged-X XP.
The dust never let up. The lack of wind and serious silt meant that visibility was going to be a factor all the way to the end. Cognito running clean air out front was set to record a well deserved win. Then with 50 miles, the Cognito was parked on the side of the course – out with a broken clutch.
The race to the end was on. With the #1919 in the physical lead, Holz knew he needed to keep them in his sights to take the win on corrected time (Schueler started ahead of Kiger). Closing in but unable to capitalize, it looked like more dust and more frustration till the finish. Until a hard right hander, one mile before the finish. Holz drove all the way into the corner, pivoted and got a great drive – enough to pass the #1919 into the next corner and get clean air to the finish.
“This one felt good. We worked our butts off today. We had a few rough spots but never gave up and got there at the end. This Polaris RZR XP is so dialed in and handling so great it’s nice to put it on top of the box.” said Mark Holz.
Next up the HRP UTV Racers will be ready to do battle for next round of WORCS Series May 10th in Taft, CA, the Coastal GNCC team will be ready for the John Penton in Millfield, OH on June 1st, while Mark Holz and Scott Kiger’s Coastal/Holz RZR XP will take some time to test and prep for the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno on August 18th.
