2020 Glamis UTV Industry Ride

United States Border Fence

By Jon Crowley

Getting together with people from the UTV Industry in Glamis is something I started doing back in 2012.  It was a way to get people in the industry out to ride together and while we were there get some great photos and video. What I noticed as well is it was a great place for these guys to relax by the campfire at night and talk with others in the industry about their business. Networking ensued and even competitors shared ideas and good times together.

5th Annual UTV Industry Ride – Glamis

All went well for a few years when along with help from Dave at Fullerton Sand Sports and the guys from Pro Armor it grew into something that everybody wanted to go to.  Unfortunately, my small group of guys that were mature enough spawned into a cluster and one year a fight broke out and the sheriff showed up to help sort through the mess.  Needless to say, I reverted back to just the people I knew first hand.

Over the years it has dwindled, but every February I’d make an annual trip to Glamis with a few of the businesses that support me. For 2020, I made a bit more of a push to get more of my guys there and we had an excellent time.

It’s funny how things change over the years.  In the early days it was all about me getting content for them.  Now, just the escape to Glamis to ride with a good group is enough for most. But if you know me, I am always ready to shoot, especially in the dunes. I was seriously hampered by a solid cold that set me back, but we still got a few bangers and even did an awesome ride to the south dunes where we had breakfast at Duner’s Diner, then ventured across Interstate 8 to the Buttercup dunes to check out the US/Mexico border fence.

I think the road trip south was the highlight of the trip and I am sure others felt the same way.

During the trip, we went on several great dune rides to Osborne Overlook, Oldsmobile Hill, Sunset Point and the Swingset.

For this trip, I brought my 2019 Can-Am Maverick X3 Max.  We’ve had a few upgrades made to it, but the engine and clutch are completely stock and it is still running the original belt. It was a trouble free weekend, were all I did was fill up with fuel and ride.  Just the way I like it.

I’d like to thank everyone that made it out for this trip and I am looking forward to other trips before seeing you again in Glamis next year.
