2018 CAN-AM COMMANDER FAMILY

The Can-Am Commander family was revised to enhance consumer’s recreation-utility experience. The Commander 1000R (two-seat and MAX) side-by-side vehicle has received a significant update for 2018, with a power bump to 92hp (+7hp), a wider stance and larger brakes. The vehicle now features the Rotax V-Twin 1000R engine and transmission air intake system from the Can-Am Maverick 1000R. Another upgrade includes new 14-in. (35.6 cm) cast-aluminum wheels for improved dynamic handling experience.

The Commander Limited package wear new FOX 2.0 QS3 Podium shocks offering tool-free adjustments to compression and numerous fine-tuning ranges for outstanding ride quality. A Bluetooth connector was also included as part of the Limited package. These shocks are adjustable for simple and repeatable suspension setting changes on the fly. Its wide range of compression adjustment provides noticeable changes of ride quality and handling with three straightforward settings. Choose a QS3 setting that gives you the most confidence, comfort, or handling characteristics with just a “flip of a switch.”

CAN-AM COMMANDER LIMITED 1000R

The Commander Limited 1000R took on significant changes for 2018, receiving a more powerful 92hp Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine, FOX 2.0 Podium QS3 shocks, Bluetooth compatibility for its sound system, larger front brakes, new 14-in. (35.6 cm) cast-aluminum offset wheels, as well as receiving another color offering (painted Triple Black).

PERFORMANCE

– NEW 92hp Rotax V-Twin engine – The powerful-and-efficient liquid-cooled, 8-valve (4-valve / cyl.) 976cc SOHC Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine now produces 92hp (+7hp) for ample performance and torque for both work and recreational adventures. Incorporating the Maverick 1000R engine and transmission air intake system (and additional driven pulley air intake) in the Commander vehicle contributed to the horsepower gain. The progressive throttle ensures power is manageable no matter the terrain.

HANDLING

– Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) –  The Tri-Mode DPS system features three modes (MIN, MED and MAX) allowing riders to select the desired amount of steering assist to adjust to the terrain requirements and to his riding style. All modes offer less assist at high speed and more assist at low speed.

– Visco-Lok QE –  All DPS-equipped models come with the Visco-Lok QE calibration giving an even quicker engagement of the front differential. Can lock up to 100 percent with no rev or speed limiter. This differential, unlike some competitor’s differentials, does not have a speed or rev limiter.

– NEW FOX 2.0 Podium QS3 shocks –  The new FOX 2.0 Podium QS3 shocks, front and rear, offer tool-free adjustments for simple, and 10-in. (25.4 cm) of travel, repeatable suspension settings for work and recreational use. A wide range of adjustment and provides noticeable changes in ride quality and handling without the complication of counting detents.

– NEW 14-in. (35.6 cm) cast-aluminum offset wheels –  The Commander Limited is outfitted with new stylish cast-aluminum offset wheels. The offset wheels offer 1.5-in. (3.8 cm) per side for a total of 3-in. (7.6 cm) additional tracking width for improved trail confidence and handling.

– 27-in. (68.6 cm) Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires – Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires feature a rugged six-ply radial construction, yet are lightweight to cut down on unsprung weight. The non-
directional tires are very capable climbing and clawing across tough terrain and also absorb varying surfaces for a smooth ride and provide predictable cornering.

– NEW 220 mm front disc brakes with twin-piston calipers –  The Commander 1000R vehicles use dual 220 mm ventilated disc brakes with 32 mm hydraulic twin-piston calipers up front and a single 214 mm ventilated disc brake with 27 mm hydraulic twin-piston caliper on the rear.

RIDER-FOCUSED DESIGN

– Garmin GPS –  A premium Garmin Montana 650t touch-screen GPS offers a fully interactive program and a full-color screen to enhance any adventure.

– NEW Sound system with four speakers, Bluetooth & iPod / iPhone connector with controls –  The integrated four-speaker sound system, which is compatible with most major portable music players (including the iPod / iPhone), offers a USB port, an auxiliary input and a new Bluetooth connector for 2018.

– 4,500-lb. (2,041 kg) winch –  The Limited package uses the same 4,500-lb. winch kit that is included in the XT package.

– Half windshield –  Exclusive to the Limited is a fully functional half windshield for a stunning look and windbreak.

– Rear net –  The rear net, emblazed with the Can-Am logo, gives the Commander Limited 1000R vehicle a sophisticated look and acts as an open-
air cover for the rear of the cab.

– Heavy-duty front bumper –  The Can-Am Commander Limited package wears a heavy-duty front bumper.

– Rugged bed rails –  Cargo box rails provide additional locations to attach tie-downs for cargo carrying.

– Mudguards –  Mudguards were added to the Can-Am Commander Limited wheel wells to enhance its look and to improve mud protection.

– Analog / digital gauge package –  The analog / digital gauge package includes high-grade instrumentation. This includes an analog tachometer and speedometer combined with an advanced digital information center.

– Limited seat trim –  The Can-Am Commander Limited side-by-side vehicle seats include unique trim for a sophisticated appearance. The seats have integrated headrests, side padding and are removable and freestanding, so sitting around at basecamp is much more comfortable. The driver’s seat adjusts (6.3-in. / 16 cm) fore and aft without the need of tools.

– Custom steering wheel –  The custom steering wheel inside the Commander Limited has a center section with brushed-aluminum finish.

– NEW Premium painted –  A new menacing automotive-like painted Triple Black coloration joins Midnight Blue as available color schemes for the luxurious Limited package.

CAN-AM COMMANDER MOSSY OAK HUNTING EDITION 1000R

The appropriately outfitted Commander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition receives the full 2018 Commander upgrades, including more horsepower (92hp), offset cast-aluminum wheels and larger front brakes. Purpose built with hunters and outdoorsmen in mind, the Mossy Oak Hunting Edition, the direct result of joint effort from Can-Am and Mossy Oak, includes several standard XT package items (bed rails, mudguards, bumpers, tires and winch), but is also outfitted with a few unique features. The most noticeable of those is the water-dipped Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo, but it also includes gun boots, full skid plate, roof and much more.

RIDER-FOCUSED DESIGN

– 4,500-lb. (2,041 kg) winch –  The package features a huge 4,500-lb. winch with roller fairlead and fully sealed motor. The rugged, dependable winch can haul out big game and get hunters out of a jam if needed.

– Rugged bed rails –  Along with a more rugged appearance, the cargo box bed rails provide additional locations to attach tiedowns for cargo carrying.

– Gun boots –  Two protective 6.0 Impact gun boots by Kolpin are attached to a rear cab-mounted gear rail with brackets. The gun boots include removable, shock absorbing foam and nylon impact liner for superior interior protection. The portable gun boots also feature a lockable hatchback design, snap-close cover and integrated handle.

– Two-piece, full hard roof –  A durable, heavy-duty, two-piece plastic sport roof serves to protect the occupants from elements while giving the Mossy Oak vehicle a custom appearance.

– Half windshield –  The package includes a fully functional half windshield for a stunning look and functional windbreak on cool days and to limit the amount of debris entering the cab.

– Full under body skid plate –  A lightweight, durable aluminum full-length skid plate ensures the underside of Commander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition 1000R vehicle is protected from destructive rocks, stumps and other hidden obstacles.

– Mossy Oak Break-Up Country Camo –  When it comes to concealment, nothing compares to the exclusive Mossy Oak Break-Up Country Camo. The highly durable water-dipped camo finish is more resistant to scratching, mineral deposits and sun fading. More importantly, it lets hunters match their favorite camo manufacturer with their favorite side-by-side vehicle brand.

CAN-AM COMMANDER XT 1000R / XT 800R

The factory-installed, value-added package on the Commander XT 1000R and Commander XT 800R side-by-sides include a 4,500-lb. (2,041 kg) winch, cast-aluminum wheels (updated on 1000R XT package) and three color choices for 2018. All XT packages also include Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering, Visco-Lok QE and much more.

Two Rotax V-Twin engine options:

1. The powerful-and-efficient liquid-cooled, 8-valve (4-valve / cyl.) 976cc SOHC Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine now produces 92hp (+7hp) for ample performance and torque for both work and recreational adventures. Incorporating the Maverick 1000R engine and transmission air intake system (and additional driven pulley air intake) in the Commander vehicle contributed to the horsepower gain. The progressive throttle ensures power is manageable no matter the terrain.
2. The 71hp liquid-cooled, 799.9 cc SOHC Rotax 800R V-Twin powering the Commander 800R has four valves per cylinder and is fed by a 54 mm throttle body and two fuel injectors. The sophisticated electronic fuel injection system automatically keeps the engine’s performance at its peak, regardless of temperature or altitude. The progressive throttle ensures power is manageable whether in precise trail riding or opening it up on the straights.

RIDER-FOCUSED DESIGN

– 4,500-lb. (2,041 kg) winch – A 4,500-lb. winch kit includes a roller fairlead. The winch is designed to handle heavy-duty loads at the work site and on the trail.

– Heavy-duty front bumper – The Can-Am Commander XT features a front bumper that is installed at the factory. The added protection gives peace of mind in rugged conditions.

– Rugged bed rails – Bed rails installed on the Dual-Level cargo box give the XT a rugged look and add more tie-down points for cargo carrying.

– Mudguards – Mudguards run on the wheel wells to complete the premium look of the Can-Am Commander XT and give the driver and passenger further protection from the mud.

CAN-AM COMMANDER DPS 1000R / DPS 800R

For 2018, the affordable Commander DPS family receives a new Green color and updated cast-aluminum wheels. The Commander DPS 1000R vehicle also gets a 7hp boost and updated brakes for the new model year.

CAN-AM COMMANDER 800R

New bright White arrives for the Commander 800R side-by-side vehicle. More importantly, the market-point-of-entry package has received a price cut in certain regions, including the United States (now starting at $11,199 USD) and Canada.
