Chandler, AZ (2/21/2011) With only a short break occurring since last season’s final LOORRS race at Firebird Raceway, Weller Racing has already started the new race season off on the right foot with a solid win at the first round of the ASCC Series (a Lucas Oil Regional event) held at Speedworld in Surprise, AZ.
Jason Weller simply dominated the UTV field in the Weller Racing/Tilted Kilt/Lucas Oil SR1, showing the cheering crowd that Corry Weller (Jason’s wife) isn’t the only fast driver in the family.
Easily winning the heat race as well as the main event, Weller proved that the four-year-old race chassis still had plenty of win left in it, and that the Weller Racing SR1 would be a competitive force to reckon with in the approaching Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series.
“The first few times I have driven Corry’s car, I was a little intimidated by it,” said Jason, when asked about his race. “But now I’m so much more comfortable in it, and I am figuring out what it can really do. I just went out and had a great time!”
While Jason was out on the track, Corry was learning the ropes in the spotter’s tower, as she would take on her husband’s usual role for this round, as well as for future races throughout the 2011 ASCC season. “I have to really focus on paying attention to what Jason needs to know while he’s out there,” Corry said, when talking about her new responsibility. “I find myself getting all wrapped up in the race and sometimes forget to let him know when someone is next to him, or when they throw a flag. I think I need more practice!”
When asked how the change was going, Jason answered “It actually helps a lot for me to be out on the track and racing Corry’s car. Before, I relied solely on her feedback when it came to any setup issues or problems; but now, I am actually out there experiencing the same things she is, and I will be able to set up the car even better now for her LOORRS races this year.”
Round 2 of the ASCC/Lucas Oil Regional Series will be held at Firebird Raceway on Sunday, March 6. For 2011, the series is looking forward to increased entries, fan support and television coverage to be aired on MavTv, beginning later in the season.
