VORRA Sanctions the Xtreme Outlaws 250 Race on Father’s Day Weekend with $10,000 Purse

RENO, NV JUNE 16, 2010: Set your eyes on the deserts surrounding Reno, NV for the next race in the VORRA series this coming Father’s Day Weekend, June 18th – 20th, 2010. The Xtreme Outlaws 250 will start at the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR), run through the streets of Reno and Virginia City, and then far into the wild desert. Racers including John Harrah, Roger Norman, Chuck Dempsey, Sam Berri and Dave Cole are making final preparations for this weekends new Father’s Day tradition.

“This race is setting up to be an epic race in VORRA’s history. Rod Hall helped create an amazing course that is on fresh desert floor and is all new terrain to every single racer,“ states Wes Harbor, VORRA Director. And if the virgin course isn’t enough momentum for the drivers, the Xtreme Outlaw 250 will award this years over-all podium with $10,000 in cash and prizes, and a spectacular “Six-Shooters” trophy will be given to the “First Ever Winner” of what will become one of the top races to compete in year after year.

Thursday’s Pre-Run Fun Run will kick off the weekend events and give the drivers the one and only shot of getting on the course before race day. Drivers will take on the never before seen course with a stop in Virginia City for lunch. Wes Harbor believes that “this is a driver’s course, not a fast course. This race will be won in the helmet as they battle to overcome every obstacle.”

Friday’s Pro Class Qualifying is a first for a VORRA race. They have designed a 4 mile loop that drivers will compete for the fastest time for positioning in the starting grid. Racers who opt out of qualifying will start with their class farther back in the pack. After qualifying, racers will be at Tech and Contingency in the Grand Sierra Resort parking lot. Vendor row will be set up on the grounds and spectators are encouraged to come out and meet the drivers and see the vehicles.

Saturday’s race will start at the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) with the Extreme Outlaw Leap, parade down Interstate 80 and then go into the desert for three 90-mile loops. “This is a very spectator friendly race, there is easy access to the main pit area which will be situated nine miles east of Sparks at the new massive Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center,” explains Don Gilman of Off Road Innovations (ORI) of Reno. “The southern pit area will also be convenient and fan-friendly, located at historic Virginia City’s Silverland Hotel, where the cars will actually race down the streets one block off Main Street!” There will also be plenty of spectator viewing on USA Parkway off Highway 80. Top competitors are expected to finish the race in around 5 hours, with an overall limit of 10 hours of racing.

VORRA is in its 35th year of producing high quality yet affordable racing while also creating fun events around the race making it a great place to have friends and family enjoy Father’s Day Weekend spectating or competing.

Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) was established in 1975 as a family-oriented organization and is led by current promoter Wes Harbor who believes that “off road racing has its roots in people’s garages”. VORRA is the only organization to offer both four short course races and four desert races as part of its overall season championship. Each race draws over 60 racers between multiple classes available for Cars, Trucks, Pilots, ATV, UTV and Trophy Karts. In 2010 VORRA has added two additional truck classes and a stand alone ATV Race Series. More information can be found at www.vorra.net
