Can-Am Maverick MAX
SDR Motorsports Custom Can-Am Maverick MAX

Theall-new 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX finally hit dealers last summer. The Can-Am four-seat side-by-side is purpose built to raise both the performance and comfort levels of the modern multi-passenger off-road vehicle. The MAX offers the same class-leading performance (101-horsepower), handling and ergonomic influences of the two-seat Maverick 1000R, but also benefits from industry-exclusive Can-Am design elements. With a 29.5-Inch longer wheelbase, Dynamic Passenger Comfort system and stadium-style rear seating, the Maverick MAX is engineered to accommodate multiple passengers.

SDR Motorsports did not waste much time tricking one out for the Sand Sports Super Show and SEMA Show. SDR started with a brand newMaverick MAX 1000R X rs DPS. This is the top-of-the-line four-seat model from Can-Am has a few extra goodies that the base model does not including Tri-mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS), Visco-Lok QE, FOX 2.5 Podium Performance Shocks, upgraded gauges, X-trim graphics and beadlock wheels.

SDR went to work designing a new cage and doors that show off their shop motto – “Strength. Safety. Style….Built in.” The MMXR-4 cage includes their popular roof mounted led light scoop and rear led brake light panel. The doors are hinged with a single-pivot design that minimizes rattle and maximizes open space that make it easy to get in and out of all four seats.

On the interior, SDR used Twisted Stitch seats and harnesses that increase comfort and add another layer of safety.

The next step in this build was long travel suspension and HCR Racing’s long travel kit fit the bill nicely. It widens the MAX by four inches on each side (+8″ overall), and stretches the wheelbase by three inches (2” forward and 1” rear).  The HCR kit utilizes 2.5 King Racing shocks and Summers Brothers 4340 axles.  Once installed, the Maverick MAX is bumped up to 18 inches of wheel travel.

For sand tires, SDR looked to Fullerton Sand Sports to design a package not only increased performance, but gives the MAX a sporty appearance. The custom-carved STU Sand Blasters were then mounted up on HiPer Racing carbon fiber beadlocks.

A Rigid Industries LED light was added to the roof and a twin set of Safeglo whips were mounted to the roof so the MAX could run through the dunes at night.

And to finish the look off, ProLineWraps.com custom designed the graphics.
