Snow Run
A few days after Christmas up in the Sierra's
We hauled three UTVs up to the snow with my short bed
Ford F250. A 2010 Polaris RZR S (on the rack), a 2009 Polaris RZR S and
a 2008 Kawasaki Teryx.
Several inches of fresh powder from a storm that hit
the night before
Climbed up quite a bit and the snow got deep.
Probably about 2 feet deep at the point I got stuck.
Along this part of the trail, we noticed quite a devastated landscape
from a recent fire. Back in October of 2004, the Freds Fire
started on the north side of Highway 50 approximately 1½ miles east of
the communities of Silver Fork and Kyburz, in El Dorado County. The fire
quickly spread across extremely steep slopes, burning through timber and
heavy fuels. The fire burned rapidly in a westerly direction, parallel
to Highway 50, driven by strong east winds. The fire burned
approximately 7,560 acres on the Eldorado National Forest (ENF) and on
private timberlands.
Since that time, many dead trees were removed and almost 19,000 new
trees were planted. It will be a several decades before the area
will look anywhere close to what it did before the fire.
New Product Reviews:
EMP
Half Windshield really helped keep a lot of the cold wind off of me.
I got the quick connect clamps that allow me to remove and reinstall the
windshield on short notice based on weather conditions. The windshield
and clamps are easy to install and do a great job of cutting the amount
of wind that hit you. The other thing I like about a half
windshield is you don't have to worry about the windshield getting dirty
to the point of impairing your visibility since you look over the top of
it.
Also tried out some heated seat covers. The heat
output was really nice, but they do draw quite a bit of power on the
high setting. With two seat heaters on high with the radiator fan
running it might be too much for the stator to keep up with.
