2012 Kawasaki Teryx4 Buildup Project
We are embarking on a new build project with a brand new 2012 Kawasaki Teryx4.
The goals for this build are enhanced suspension and
trail capability. The Teryx4 is Kawasaki's newest UTV, built to haul four
people. Our camo unit comes with power steering and a relatively short wheelbase
considering four adults can fit quite comfortably.
We are super impressed with a few features of the Teryx4 - new centrifugal
clutch, power steering and front locker engagement make it very nimble and
capable.
We will be working with several premiere aftermarket accessory companies to
build this UTV that will be right at home on the Rubicon, Moab, pre-running in
Baja or exploring the desert or tight forest trails.
We did 35+ miles today at the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area. We
put our 31" Pit Bull Gowler LT tires on to see how our stock engine and
clutch would do. Although we did lose some power going up hills, I was
real happy with how the car performed.
Prairie City SVRA - April 2012
Our Teryx4 does awesome in the rocks. With HCR long
travel and FOX shocks, we have more ground clearance and a smooth ride.
Factory UTV UHMW skid plate protects the underside real well. Biggest
plus on the Teryx4 is the clutch. Grabs right now with no slipping.
Car is super comfortable.
Glamis - February 2012
SDR Motorsports installed the long travel, seats, harnesses,
LED light and built a cage and roof for it. They arrived with it on the
trailer early Saturday morning. I swapped to my paddle tires, then had Chris
from Benchmark Performance reflash the ECU to get rid of the speed-limiter.
I then added a little pre-load to the shocks and it was time to try it out.
The suspension was set a little soft, so I added a few
clicks to the Fox Racing Shox RC2s and that helped quite a bit. The
PRP seats and harnesses were very comfortable and the SDR cage looked great.
We even took it out for a night ride to Olds and tried out the Rigid
Industries LED light bar.
After a bunch of picture taking of some nice cars on Sunday
morning, I jumped in my Teryx4 so we
could get a few pictures. Then four of us went on another
quick-paced ride through the dunes. I was pretty surprised at how
well I did in my Teryx4 following a XP, XP4 and a turbo XP. Other than
one steep hill that did not have much of a run, I mobbed through the
dunes without slowing down the pace of the guys up front. The HCR Racing
long travel, Summers Brothers axles and Fox shocks worked great.
They need a little more fine tuning, but I was very happy with the setup
for the first trip out. The quality of the parts and the installation by
SDR Motorsports made this a very pleasurable experience.
Very impressed with the performance of the Teryx4 with just
a set of paddle tires on it. Made it to the top of Sand Mountain!
Went on a 90 mile desert ride with four people in the
Teryx4. It was very comfortable and performed well. Only complaint is
hitting the governor that limits speed to about 50 mph.
Took our brand new Kawasaki Teryx4 out to Prairie City SVRA
to play in the rocks today. The vehicle is completely stock except for
larger wheels and tires. A few of the pictures above give you a good view of
the 28" EFX MotoMTC Tires from Colorado
Components.
Only complaint I had today was the skid plate. Not strong
enough for this type of rock crawling. Thankfully I dropped the Teryx4 off
at
Factory UTV so they could
design UHMW skids that will protect the bottom of the T4.
Front locker was real easy to engage and the power steering made steering a
breeze. Absolutely LOVE the how the clutch grabs.
For a factory vehicle with only larger tires, I was very impressed with the
Teryx4 in the rocks. I cannot wait to get it out on the Rubicon and Moab.
