With about a month to go before the thrilling Vegas to Reno - The Long Way!! race, two new classes have been added to the roster to accommodate two exciting groups of vehicles. Wide Open Excursions, best known for their corporate Baja adventure trips, will compete in a new class called Baja Challenge. This is a Pro Class featuring the identically prepared “arrive and drive” Wide Open race vehicles. They will be competing in U.S. for the first time ever to celebrate this special running of the famous Vegas to Reno race. After racing in Baja for years, five teams to date have committed to head north of the border and take on the challenge of “The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States.”
Ultra 4 is a new sportsman class for the wild “King of the Hammers” (KOH) endurance race vehicles. These unique vehicles are a cross breed of rock crawler and desert racer. Vegas to Reno - The Long Way!! is actually a qualifying event in order to gain a starting spot in the 2010 Hammers race. So far, 11 Ultra 4 entries have signed up for Vegas to Reno - The Long Way!! including a team from Australia.
Festivities each evening include live music sponsored by Speed Technologies, plus an impressive hospitality area sponsored by Red Bull with their energy drinks. There will also be a Beer Garden, and for those nondrinkers,a great place for root beer or a root beer float, sponsored by TSCO and Rebel Malting & Brewing, and Lance Jergensen, Little Brother to Todd Jergensen. The soon-to-be-announced “Camp Adventure” locations will let spectators, racers and their teams take in the Nevada desert’s beautiful sunsets, and it offer the opportunity to meet and converse with some of the world’s most talented racers.
Each day will hold new challenges for the racers, as they traverse more than 300 miles, stop overnight at “Camp Adventure” and then head into Reno, Nevada, to a brand new official finish located at the Dayton, Nevada Event Center, where team members and fans can help celebrate. A big thank you to TSCO, sponsors of this prestigious event for the eighth year in row, who also heartily support and look forward to the staged event concept.
The first day, racers will run 331 miles and stop for the night at Tonopah, Nevada, sponsored by McMillin Racing. The second day the course is 361 miles, with an overnighter at Hawthorne, Nevada, sponsored by KC Hilites. The last leg runs 300 miles and ends in Reno, Nevada, sponsored by Speed Technologies. Each of the nights at “Camp Adventure” will offer the opportunity to make some repairs, strategize for the next day’s route, and set the racer’s minds at rest ... if they can get some sleep! Each night’s action includes live music, Red Bull hospitality, a beer garden featuring both hops and root style, and more surprises coming.
The experience in your race vehicle at this event will be a life-changing one you will never forget. The question is, are you and your team ready for the challenge?

Weller Racing responds to Kimbrell’s DQ at LOORRS Round 6

June 29, 2009 - Chandler, AZ
It is with great trepidation and concern that we find ourselves forced to deal with an issue that we never felt we would be faced with in our racing career, and as a result of the decision of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) tech officials to disqualify Austin Kimbrell based on his Weller Racing motor exceeding the 800cc limit for the Unlimited UTV class, we are now forced to look within our own processes to try to find what went wrong – not only in an effort to ensure that we never find ourselves in this situation again, but also to ensure that our current and future customers will forever retain the trust they have put into us throughout the years.
Racing is our way of life, and nothing fulfills us more than being able to go to battle with truly great competitors; and the only way this can BE truly fulfilling, is if that competition is always fair. Because of this belief, we want to express our agreement and full support of LOORRS’ decision to tear down the top three motors in the Unlimited UTV class. We feel that this is necessary, and will keep everyone honest, while also helping to dispel any rumors of other teams cheating. We have felt this should be done for a very long time, and are happy to see it finally happening now.
We also understand how it must look to anyone who is not in the motor building business to see that a racer is disqualified due to exceeding a set cc limit. We were rocked to the core when we were informed by LOORRS tech officials that Kimbrell’s motor was found to be 1.4 cc’s over the 800cc limit. This discrepancy was found on the front cylinder, and it is practically immeasurable. This was evident by the fact that even the LOORRS tech’s testing mechanism had to be rechecked 5 times, because they were getting readings varying over 2mm difference. While we are not fully convinced with whom the discrepancy actually lies, we will side with LOORRS, and will build the necessary cushion in the future to account for this variation. We understand that rules are rules, and must be enforced – after all, it just makes for better racing.
Again, we want to stress that we are competitors to the core, but we are only satisfied by a truly fair competition. We support LOORRS and their decision, and will make any and all necessary adjustments to our build processes to ensure that this will never be an issue again. We also support our racers, and we know that Austin Kimbrell drove his heart out, and will be on the podium again shortly with a motor that is undeniably within the regulatory limits.
Thank you to all of our loyal customers, our friends, our race families and our fans for your support throughout the years. We are still a young company, and we are learning as we grow – we are not immune to mistakes, and we can only hope that as we strive to minimize those mistakes, that the faith you all have in our business, our character, and our intentions stays true.

Sincerely,
Jason and Corry Weller – Weller Racing, LLC

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series - June 27, 28 UTV

Round 5 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series from the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex in Lake Elsinore, CA

At the beginning of the UTV race, it was the Walker Evans Racing Wheels Polaris of RJ Anderson who took the early lead. Close behind was Robert Vanbeekum, followed by Austin Kimbrell and Tyler Winbury. All four had opened a big gap on the rest of the field, and the only other driver really moving was the #624 Funco Kawasaki of Chad George, who was picking of drivers left and right after starting dead last thanks to his mechanical woes in yesterday’s qualifying session. Up front, Kimbrell moved into second as the rest of the field started to string out. The competition yellow brought the drivers all back together, and after green was shown again, the pressure of leading finally seemed to get to young RJ Anderson, who was passed by Kimbrell, then Vanbeekum, then Winbury and George when Anderson spun out near turn 2. Up front, #607 Kimbrell checked out, leaving the real action to the last lap battle between Funco teammates Winbury and George for the final step on the podium. These two passed each other several times, but it was George who was ahead of his teammate when it counted, as he ultimately took third behind Kimbrell and Vanbeekum. Fourth was Winbury, and Anderson managed to hold together well enough to pick up a fifth place finish.

Results for the UTV class are:

1. 607 Austin Kimbrell
2. 624 Chad George
3. 637 RJ Anderson

Holz Racing Wins Best in the Desert UTV Class

Lynden, WA (April 24, 2009)
Holz Racing topped the field in the grueling Best in the Desert Series during the Terrible Town 250 in Primm, Nevada, April 18, 2009, adding cross-country durability to the already long list of Holz Racing Products attributes.
To date the 2009 Holz Racing Polaris RZR had already proven itself on the short track World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) races, winning two of three events. But with 73 miles of untamed desert looming on the horizon, owner Mark Holz teamed up with Matt Parks and stretched the legs of the Kroyer Racing Engine powered RZR in the Best of the Desert UTV class.
Fourteen competitors comprised the UTV class at the start of the Terrible Town race with only 11 cars making it to the checkered. Faced with uncharted desert, dry creek beds and rock-strewn climbs, the Maxxis tires outfitted Holz RZR averaged just over 39 miles-per-hour, finishing the race in just over 1 hour, 52 minutes.
“The race was a good change of pace for us,” said Mark Holz. “A longer race is great for more extensive durability testing of our performance parts and to evaluate different calibration ideas we have in mind for our Fox shock package.”
The Best in the Desert Series plays host to world-class off-road racing events throughout the southwestern United States. Last year, more than 4,000 racers competed in various Best in the Desert race events, conquering some of the most unpredictable and challenging desert terrain in North America. More information can be found at www.bitd.com

The next race for Holz racing is the May 1-3 World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) in Milford, California.

Domination Continues for Holz Racers in WORCS Competition

Frederick, Zimmerman and Holz Clean House in Respective Pro Classes

Lynden, WA (March 11, 2009) - While the season is still young in the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) Holz Racing factory backed pilots are already setting the tone as the ones to beat. When the last checkered dropped at the Race Town 395 Raceway in Adelanto, California last week, Holz racers stood atop the podium once again, besting the top ATV and UTV racers and machines in the country.
In the Pro ATV class, it was returning champion and perennial front-runner Josh Frederick from Moapa, Nevada and his Holz equipped Motorworks Can-Am besting the field with a strong performance. Other Holz Racing notables in the field included Jeremie Warina in fourth, Mike Machado placing seventh and Jesse Goss rounding out the top ten.
The results were more of the same in the hotly contested Pro Am ATV class, where Dillon Zimmerman and his Holz Racing suspended Motorworks Can-Am DS450 came across the finish line with a 2-minute lead over his next closest rival. A combination of racing prowess and excellent Holz Racing equipment spelled the difference between racing and winning. Also posting strong results was Tammy Balser, who as a young teenager showed her abilities against the typically male dominated field with a strong 11th place finish.
In the UTV side-x-side national class, Mark Holz proved again no-one designs, manufactures and race tests Polaris RZR UTV products better than Holz Racing Products. Utilizing many of the same Holz Racing UTV products available to his customers, Mark took the win while laying down lap after lap of consistent times. At one point his best lap was a full 11 seconds quicker than his next closest competitor.
"It was another good weekend for our team," said Mark Holz upon returning home to his Lynden, Washington race shop. "Our Holz racers proved once again the durability and performance of our products. In the UTV class I nailed the
holeshot… the Kroyer powered Polaris RZR is just awesome to have under your foot. The response is great and combined with our suspension and chassis products, it really puts the power to the ground."
In addition to Kroyer engines and Holz suspension goods, the Holz Racing Polaris RZR rides on sticky Maxxis Tires and has its extended range of suspension movement kept in check by FOX Racing Shox. The power is harnessed by Team Industries clutching goods.
The Race Town 395 course was punishing on both racers and equipment as it featured portions of a motocross track and open desert running with huge sand whoops
The World Off-Road Championship Series is one of the premiere off-road racing series in North America. The next race for Holz Racing and WORCS series is March 27-29 in Lake Havasu, Arizona.

“Vegas to Reno” – The Long Way - Comments Needed for 2009 Race

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) solicting comments on the Best in the Desert 2009 TSCO “Vegas to Reno” race

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 28, 2009) In January, Casey Folks, Director of the Best in The Desert Racing Association, announced that the official name of this year's race is TSCO “Vegas to Reno” – The Long Way… and it’s approximately 1000 miles. In 2008 the Best in The Desert (BITD) racing series saw increased entries and Casey wanted to turn up the heat on this year’s event by lengthening the course. The event will run for a full three days with stops each night at “Camp Adventure” where racers and their teams will be able to make repairs and adjustments to their vehicles in a controlled environment and have great bench racing opportunities.

This is your opportunity to make a difference. The BLM is soliciting scoping comments on the Environmental Analysis (EA) being prepared in order to issue a Special Recreation Permit for this event. Go to ORBA’s website and download the template scoping letter, rewrite it on a different sheet of paper and send it in to the BLM. We want to let the BLM know that our community supports this race.

The state of Nevada is a tourism-based economy which has historically included events such as this to attract people to the state and its rural communities. This fact, along with the increased popularity of this type of recreation, magnifies the need for this type of event. The amount of public lands with established roads and trails makes this state uniquely equipped to host events of this type. By allowing this race to occur it will be fulfilling the recreation needs of the area and at the same time bring badly need tourism dollars to the region.

ORBA is a national trade association composed of off-road related businesses united to promote common goals that support the prosperity and growth of the off-road industry. ORBA can be found on the internet at www.orba.biz.

Polaris also will continue to offer their race contingency program.

“We are committed to ATV and Side-by-Side racing,” said Eric Nault, Product/Race manager for Polaris’s ORV division. “With the introduction of the Sportsman XP, RANGER RZR S, and Outlaw 450 MXR for 2009, we feel we have a fierce line up of vehicles to capture titles in the various circuits.”

GNCC/AMA ATV Motocross Championship
Rath Racing is on board for 2009 to race the Sportsman 850 XP EPS in GNCC and the Outlaw 450 MXR in AMA ATV National Motocross Championship. Daryl Rath, Cody Anderson and Frank Batista will tackle the “4x4 Open” classes with the Sportsman 850 XP EPS, and Daryl Rath also will race the RANGER RZR in the Side-by-Side classes. Rath Racing was the first race team to hit the podium with a factory-backed Sportsman in GNCC series in 2008. In 2009, they will be competing for the championship with the 99-percent new, 2009 Sportsman 850XP EPS. Rath Racers Landon Hurst (Pro-Am Class) and Mitch Reynolds (Pro Class) will race the Outlaw 450 MXR in AMA ATV National Motocross Championship.

Announced last fall, Polaris also is supporting the Yokley Racing/National Guard race team. Multi-time Pro and Pro Production GNCC Winner, William Yokley started racing the Polaris RANGER RZR during the 2008 GNCC season and took the Side-by-Side title. For 2009, Yokley will race the new Outlaw 450 MXR in the Pro Class and continue to race the RANGER RZR. Yokley’s teammate, Mark Notman, will race the Outlaw 450 MXR in the Pro-Am Class.

Eichner took the WORCS Side-by-Side title and finished fifth on his Outlaw 525S in the 2008. He looks to defend his Side-by-Side title and finish on top of the ATV Pro Class for 2009, now that his Outlaw 450 MXR is completely dialed in. Eichner also took the ITP Pro Open Championship in 2008 and will be racing the 450MXR in select ITP QuadCross series events.

Best in the Desert
Jagged X and the No. 1919 RANGER RZR look for their third Best in the Desert Championship in 2009. The team has a current win streak of six consecutive races, including the 2009 series opener, and Brandon Schueler and new team member Chad Riccio, look to continue their winning ways.

SCORE

Creagan and Prowler Begin 2009 Season on the Podium

Third place in the UTV class at the Parker 250

Minneapolis, Minn. (January 16, 2009) – Team Arctic racer Jim Creagan isn’t kidding when he calls the Arctic Prowler, “The toughest UTV in the desert.” At the opening round of the Best In The Desert (BITD) off-road series in Parker, Ariz., Creagan dusted off his team’s 700 XTX EFI that finished second in the Baja 1000 just two months ago, put a heavy foot on the gas and raced to a strong third place.

“This season our goal is to win the UTV class championship, which required a good finish at the Parker 250,” said Creagan. “We will campaign a Prowler 1000 XTZ in the remaining races, but it wasn’t ready for Parker. So we freshened up our Baja-worn 700, rode at the ragged edge and proved that we could once again put a stock Prowler against all the fully modified racers.”

In truth, Creagan and his team have little to prove in the rough world of off-road desert racing, having finished first and second in the side-by-side UTV class in the 2008 Baja 1000. It marked the first time a UTV has ever finished the grueling race and highlighted the performance and durability of the race-winning Prowler 1000 XTZ, as well as the second-place Prowler 700 XTX EFI.

Creagan (of Yacott, Wash.) and his son (and co-driver) Tabor Cresap followed a very different strategy for the Parker 250 than they used at the Baja 1000.

“To finish 1000 miles of Baja, you have to ride smart and in control,” Creagan said. “Parker was a 170-mile sprint against fully modified machines with powered-up engines, aftermarket suspensions and long-travel kits. Our 700 XTX had a stock engine, stock chassis and stock suspension.

“So I put my foot down on the gas and rarely lifted during the entire race. The Parker course was typically brutal, with rocks, sand washes, high speed sections and technical areas. We were absolutely thrashing our machine, but there were no problems. It was just gas-and-go at the fuel stops.”

Creagan and Cresap finished the race in four hours and fifty-five minutes, thanks to their hard driving and expertly executed fuel stops by crew members Chris Fallon and Mark Vories. Both driver and co-driver anticipate higher finishes at the six remaining BITD events, thanks to the higher top-speeds from their soon-to-be-complete Prowler 1000 XTZ.

“The 1000 XTZ will be fast enough to out-run our competitors’ modified machines,” said Creagan. “We’re optimistic about climbing a step or two up the podium.”

The team is sponsored by Arctic Cat, Wired Energy Drink, Vision X Lighting, GBC Motorsports and King Shocks.

Their next race is at the Terrible 250 in Primm, Nev., April 17-19.

Jim Baldwin Relinquishes Operations of Championship Off Road Racing

CORR CEO Steps DownJim Baldwin Relinquishes Operations of CORR
Posted December 5 2008 17:36 by Erin Granoff -->

Jim Baldwin Relinquishes Operations of
Championship Off Road Racing

Newport Beach, CA (December 5, 2008)--Today, CORR owner Jim Baldwin has announced that he is stepping down as CEO of Championship Off Road Racing. While retaining ownership, Mr. Baldwin will relinquish control of the day to day operations and management of the off road racing series and elevate Cissy Baldwin to CEO. PMF Event Services Executive Producer, Jason Markham, will be also joining Cissy Baldwin on the management team.

In just under four years since purchasing CORR, Mr. Baldwin brought short course off road racing to national level. Despite difficulties brought on by the current economic recession, CORR has experienced triple digit growth in all aspects including spectator attendance, race participants, national awareness, and television viewers.

Mr. Baldwin made the following statement:

"Long before purchasing CORR in 2005, off road racing has been my passion and my pride. My family and I have had an amazing experience both in off road racing and being so deeply involved in the sport. Seeing the potential, I purchased CORR with the goal of developing a national presence. In the past few years, we have seen our efforts pay off as CORR and short course racing entered into the national motor sports spotlight. Recently I have experienced challenges but I have no doubt that CORR has the potential to succeed. Cissy Baldwin has clearly demonstrated her abilities and I have full faith and confidence that she will steer CORR to the next level. It is with a heavy heart, with the best interest in the future of CORR and short course racing, that I must now step aside from managing the operations of the series to empower the CORR management team to carry on this vision."

As Mr. Baldwin hands over the reins of the series he will devote his efforts to his real estate business and other business interests that have become his primary focus. While it remains the premier short course racing series in the nation, the CORR team is continuing to develop a revised plan for the 2009 season that will build upon the progress that has been developed under Mr. Baldwin's leadership.

Championship Off Road Racing™ brings high action, four wheel motorsports including two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive trucks to the closed course off road arena.

Championship Off Road Racing Cancels Final 2008 Race

Championship Off Road Racing Cancels Final 2008 Race

Newport Beach, CA (November 14, 2008)— Championship Off Road Racing has regretfully announced the cancellation of its final race weekend of the 2008 season scheduled to be held in Chula Vista, California on December 6th – 7th 2008.

Championship Off Road Racing, CEO Jim Baldwin made the following statement:

“The current national financial crisis has impacted our series to the degree that it has become impossible to produce the quality off road racing experience that our fans, racers and sponsors have enjoyed. While it has been our most sincere effort to hold this final event, every possible avenue was exhausted before reaching this difficult decision. Although we have been forced to prematurely end the current season, we are strongly committed to providing the ultimate off road racing experience on the most extreme tracks while continuing to grow the sport. We apologize to our sponsors, teams and especially to our loyal fans for any inconvenience that this has caused. Our commitment to this sport, sponsors, the teams, and fans that support us is unwavering. We will continue to vigorously pursue our objective: To build the most exciting nationally recognized short course off road racing series in the country.”
CORR is in the midst of establishing a solid 2009 race schedule. This confirmed schedule, to be released shortly, is comprised of twelve rounds of racing to be held on six weekends in 2009. There are currently discussions underway with the objective of increasing that number to as many as eight race weekends and 16 rounds. We are working to assemble a revised business plan that will reflect the steps necessary to overcome the current economic challenges. Our sponsors have shown us that they understand the current economic climate and have expressed their desire to participate with us in seeing this sport blossom. The significant investment made in CORR has brought huge crowds, national exposure, and some of the most exciting racing ever seen in the dirt.

The three-hour UTV race, saw Polaris’ Region Sales Manager Matt Lube and Steve Muncur winning the 850cc stock class as well the Overall race in their Polaris RANGER RZR S. Second overall went to Karst Motorsport’s RANGER RZR. Third in 850cc stock class went to CST Racing, a local farmer and enthusiast, who purchased a RANGER RZR only six days prior to the race.

“This was a great first-time, endurance event,” said Race Winner and Polaris Region Sales Manager, Matt Lube. “The weather and mud definitely added to the challenge but the RANGER RZRs shined among the competition. DragonFire UTV World Cup - November 15, 2008

With the Arizona premiere of Thrillbillies: Double Wide on Friday, November 14, at DragonFire Racing, we thought the timing would be perfect to have our 2nd Annual UTV World Cup race the following day. This will allow for some of the race footage to be used in next year's Thrillbillies movie.

Due to the short timeframe to put this together, Julie Ehrman at ET Motopark has agreed to once again host the race, with DragonFire as the title sponsor. We are going to donate all proceeds from the premiere's silent auction to the Pro purse. We have three sets of shocks from Elka, wheels and tires from ITP, products from Kicker, Monster, Ogio, Makita, Godfrey Films, Skull Candy and many more to be added. We will post a silent auction product list soon. Julie has also agreed to provide a 50% Pro payback for the Pro 800cc UTV class.

The format will be a mix of CORR and outdoor motocross. Saturday morning will be open practice, followed by four-lap qualifying races for gate position. Heat 1 is 15 minutes plus one lap. There will be a mandatory yellow at the 10-minute mark (CORR drivers, please educate the forum on how this works), then 5 more minutes of racing plus one lap. Heat 2 will be staged two hours later, using the same format. The low score from the two races wins the DragonFire UTV World Cup. If there is a tie in points then the better score from the second race wins.

There are two UTV categories: Pro 800cc and under; and Amateur 800cc and under. These are 4-stroke displacements. A 2-stroke would have to be 400cc and under to compete. As long as the UTV you are entering is an 800cc and under 4-stroke, and utilizes a CVT clutch, you can compete in a UTV class. We will be posting protest rules and cost. We will have on-site displacement checks for the top 5 overall finishers (only under protest). ET Motopark is responsible for all tech, entry, safety and scoring duties. DragonFire will be presenting the additional prize money to the winner of the Pro UTV class. We will pay down to 5th place.

With money from the Friday night Thrillbillies premiere, and the 50% payback from ET Motopark, we should generate over $6000 in prize money for the Pro UTV class (30 Pro entrants at $200 each plus over $3000 from the silent auction should make for a great payback). The more people who show up for the Thrillbillies premiere, the more money can be raised for the Pro purse. If you plan on racing, please come with your vehicles Friday night to the premiere. We will have all the race cars on display, and will do tech inspection and registration that night. We will have tech and registration Saturday morning for the people who are coming from out of state and cannot make the premiere. Information on the race, entry forms, and prizes will be posted on the home page of DragonFire Racing.

WORCS Round 7 - Holz wins UTV Class in Polaris RZR

Lynden, WA (October 1, 2008)

Mark Holz Wins Performance UTV Class with Holz Modified Polaris RZR

WORCS UTV Racing - Holz
Mark Holz once again marred the title sponsor name of the Rhino Mod Performance UTV class by capturing his third victory in just four races, placing his Holz outfitted Polaris RZR on the podium. The Milford venue also saw ATV racer Mike Machado try his hand for the first time behind the wheel of a performance UTV. Aside from a Holz Racing long travel kit and roll cage, Machado drove his near stock Polaris RZR to a fourth place finish.

“It was another great weekend for our racers and Holz Racing products,” said Mark Holz, owner of Holz Racing and winner of the Rhino Mod UTV Performance class. “Josh (Frederick) has been unstoppable all season long, and we’re really starting to get our Holz Polaris RZR dialed in. The handling was incredible this weekend.”

Jagged X RANGER RZR Wins Best in the Desert's Bilek Silver State 300

Jagged X RANGER RZR Wins Best in the Desert's Bilek Silver State 300

Jagged X RANGER RZR Wins Best in the Desert's Bilek Silver State 300
The Jagged X/Polaris Racing number 1919 team was able to pull off another win at the Bilek Silver State 300, in Mesquite Nevada. Jagged X started in second place with a smaller-than-usual field of only five vehicles.

The Mesquite venue was billed as a new race course but the drivers soon discovered that Casey from “Best in the Desert” still had plenty of tricks up his sleeve. Co driver, Blake Van de Loo noted that the course had, "The most silt ever but also was loaded with a huge variety of terrain from 7000 ft pine forest to a trip through the old mining town of Caliente, Nevada, and even some pretty deep water crossings.”

The Jagged X RANGER RZR moved into the lead shortly after the start when the lead car encountered engine trouble. A little more than nine hours later, Brandon and Blake crossed the finish unchallenged to score their third season victory and to further secure the lead spot in the 2008 BITD points chase.

The next BITD race is the Golden West 150 (formerly the AVI 150), in Jean, Nevada, on Oct 25. This is a Quad, Side-by-Side and trophy lite only race and promises to be an exciting event.
