Minneapolis, September 29, 2009–With two Best in the Desert Races remaining, Jagged X and their RANGER RZR S took the Bilek Racing Silver State 300 race and inched themselves closer to their third Best in the Desert championship.

“The 2009 points chase is a close one with only a few points separating the top three race teams,” said Brandon Schueler. “This win will move the Jagged X a few points closer to our third championship. Our RANGER RZR S keeps proving over-and-over just how great these Polaris products really are.”

UTV Race Results for the Bilek Racing Silver State 300

MESQUITE, NEVADA – The Bilek Racing Silver State 300 was held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 north of race headquarters in Mesquite Nevada. The race course started and ended near Alamo and covered 321 miles of high desert and sand washes. Ten UTVs started the race organized by the Best in the Desert Racing Association, and only four finished.

Brandon Schueler drove his Jagged X Polaris RZR S across the finish line first, just minutes before Jim Creagan (1947) in his Bi-Polar Arctic Cat Prowler 1000. Schueler started behind Creagan, and was able to pass at pit four where the Bi-Polar team had to change a flat. From pit four, Creagan was never able to regain the lead."We would run hard and get to within a hundred yards, but just couldn't get passed them," said Jim Creagan of Bi-Polar Racing.

"It was like there was a bungee cord tied between the two vehicles," commented Bill Schueler from Jagged X. The race came down to the UTV with the least amount of problems, and it was hard to beat the Polaris RZR S driven by Brandon Schueler. "This was without a doubt the most flawless race we have ever won. The driver and co-pilot never got out of the car, we changed the air filter twice, and fueled three times."

"The Jagged X team are great competitors and nice guys. In the last 1300 miles of racing, not more that half and hour has separated us. That makes for some great racing," said Jim Creagan. Interestingly enough, the unofficial results for UTVs at the Bilek Racing Silver State 300 closely match those from the last Best in the Desert race - Vegas to Reno, The Long Way. With two races left in the BITD 2009 Race Series, the current unofficial standings have 1919 Schueler in first place and 1947 Creagan and1924 Lasher tied for second place.

The next race will be the Terribles Gran Prix At Primm on October 16 - 18, followed by the Henderson Fabtech Desert Classic on December 4 - 6.

Unofficial results for the UTVs (1900 Class):

  1. 1919 Schueler - Polaris RZR S
  2. 1947 Creagan - Arctic Cat Prowler 1000
  3. 1909 Perret - Polaris RZR S
  4. 1924 Lasher - Kawasaki Teryx

UTVs (1900 Class) that started the race are:

  1. 1902 Sappington (Yamaha Rhino)
  2. 1909 Perret (Polaris RZR)
  3. 1910 Leard (Polaris RZR)
  4. 1912 Cook (Polaris RZR)
  5. 1913 Vinagro (Polaris RZR)
  6. 1919 Schueler (Polaris RZR)
  7. 1924 Lasher (Kawasaki Teryx)
  8. 1932 Holz (Polaris RZR)
  9. 1947 Creagan (Arctic Cat Prowler 1000)
  10. 1954 Leeper (Yamaha Rhino)

DragonFire Racing and ITP Tires Team Up to Tackle the Rubicon Trail

Rubicon Trail

Rubicon Trail, CA, September 16, 2009 - The Rubicon Trail is the world's most famous of all of the tough 4x4 trails. The trail traverses the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California and although the trail is only about 12 miles in length, it is littered with hunks of granite rock that torture equipment and typically takes two days to navigate. It has been said that if your vehicle has a weakness, the Rubicon will find it.

DragonFire Racing and ITP Tires recently teamed up to showcase their Baja inspired and tested Baja Crippler beadlock wheel and BajaCross tire on the Rubicon Trail with a Kawasaki Teryx as the test vehicle.

Baja Crippler WheelThe new Baja Crippler beadlock wheel from DragonFire Racing has new patent pending design that makes is both unique and noticeable different than any other UTV wheel on the market. What sets the Baja Crippler apart from other wheels is superior strength. These wheels are designed to take big hits from rocks and keep going. The keys to the Baja Crippler’s strength lie in an inner ring reinforcement that is built into the wheel, a stronger center section, and an outer beadlock ring that is quite a bit thicker than anything else on the market.

ITP BajaCross Tire

When it was time to pick a tire to complement the Baja Crippler wheel, the obvious choice was ITP’s new BajaCross. With an 8-ply rating and 25% stronger construction the result is high level of durability. The BajaCross is made from an extended-life rubber compound with an innovative overlapping tread pattern that provides a predictable performance throughout the long life of the tire. Wraparound lugs not only provide improved shoulder protection, but also offer more sidewall traction that is often needed for climbing the granite obstacles found on the Rubicon. The super deep Rim Guard feature offers the best wheel lip protection in the business.

Whether you like to torture your UTV in Baja, or the Rubicon, the Baja Crippler and BajaCross will not only give you superior performance and strength, but also the confidence to tackle anything that is thrown in your path.

The SXS & ATV Roundup presented by Yamaha proves to be a huge success

Hunstville, TN – The SXS & ATV Roundup presented by Yamaha enjoyed success in its first year at Brimstone Recreation, hosting the largest crowd in the park’s history. Held over Labor Day Weekend 2009, the Roundup was a popular choice for off-roaders in the Southeast. With a host of activities and events for the whole family, the crowds were in attendance all weekend. Friday night’s drive-in movie sponsored by PIAA kicked off the weekend’s festivities. The crowd was back in attendance early Saturday to get a look at the tricked out machines competing in the Kawasaki Show and Shine. Mud bogging, drag racing and sled pulling events ran all day in the GBC arena, while the Can-Am guided rides gave visitors a look at Brimstone’s amazing trail system. As the sun set behind the Tennessee hills, Country Legend Jon Anderson kept the crowd rocking late into the night on the Yamaha Main Stage. Sunday was all about racing; the Pro Armor King of the Mountain Endurance Challenge tested the toughest racers in the region with the most hard-core race course in the country.

Tread Lightly! Receives Major Grant From Yamaha

OGDEN, Utah (September 10, 2009) - Tread Lightly! has received $40,000 from the Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., to continue its dedicated effort promoting responsible recreation, especially activities involving the use of off highway vehicles (OHVs). The sizeable GRANT (Guaranteeing Responsible Access to our Nation's Trails) came in the form of cash and equipment through Yamaha's OHV Access Initiative.

"As a leader in the OHV industry and a long time supporter of Tread Lightly!, Yamaha has reaffirmed the importance of responsible riding to protect recreational opportunities for the outdoor recreation community," said Lori McCullough, executive director of the nonprofit Tread Lightly!. "This grant will assist Tread Lightly! in launching two exciting new projects."

The funds will support two priorities for Tread Lightly! in 2009 and 2010, the Respected Access campaign and the development of a travel map template for federal properties.

The Respected Access movement, initially created at the request of the Federal Lands Hunting and Shooting Sports Roundtable, is an education and outreach campaign designed to promote outdoor ethics in the hunting and shooting community through a multi-faceted marketing campaign. Yamaha has dedicated $10,000 toward the development of the respectedaccess.org website. The website is a central component of the campaign and will include recreation tips, public service announcements and other downloadable resources. The 2009 GRANT complements an initial $10,000 provided in 2008 by Yamaha to design and develop the Respected Access education and outreach partnership. Data from the internationally renowned research group, Responsive Management Institute, was used in development.

"The mission of the Yamaha OHV Access Initiative aligns closely with the nationally-recognized work of Tread Lightly!, creating a mandate for our alliance," said Mike Martinez, Yamaha's general manager of ATV and Side-by-Side Operations. "Responsible OHV riders demonstrate a strong commitment to land stewardship. Tread Lightly!'s programs support the OHV community's ability to enjoy the outdoors with respect on a national level."

The Respected Access website will be available to the public in October, 2009.

Yamaha funds will support the design of a template for a new travel map that will simplify information from the U.S. Forest Visitor's Use Map by incorporating both motorized and non-motorized travel information, as well as Tread Lightly!'s outdoor ethic. Initially, this user-friendly public traveler map will be customized and printed for the four districts on the Eldorado National Forest in California.

An important tool in promoting responsible recreation, the maps will educate recreationists to trail designations, area restrictions, and information about local natural resources. Developed with national application in mind, the traveler map design will be a blueprint for other Forests to utilize.

"When people have high quality information they make better choices," said Ms. McCullough. "Yamaha's involvement in creating these easy-to-follow maps is a natural fit with their efforts to further educate the OHV community about responsible practices while recreating."

Yamaha also contributed a Grizzly utility ATV in support of Tread Lightly!'s annual fundraising auction on eBay. By donating the popular ATV, Yamaha increased attention and contributions Tread Lightly! relies upon for its education and stewardship programs.

Yamaha has been a long-time Official Partner of Tread Lightly!, giving annual contributions toward sustaining the nonprofit organization in its mission of promoting responsible outdoor recreation through ethics education and stewardship.

ITP Introduces New T-9 Pro Mod Spun Aluminum Wheel

ITP Pro Mod T-9 Wheel
ITP’s popular, proven T-9 series of spun aluminum wheels has been expanded with the introduction of the all-new Pro Mod line.

Highlights of the ITP T-9 Pro Mod include a head-turning polished finish, a double-rolled lip for excellent durability and ease of tire mounting, rugged yet lightweight .190 wall construction and the rigorous QS 9000 quality certification.

What sets the Pro Mod apart from the rest of the T-9 line is its classic off-road modular style and an angled outer wheel face. This unique design adds considerable strength to the wheel center without a weight penalty.

In fact, the T-9 Pro Mod is significantly lighter than its competition, reducing unsprung weight and rotating mass for noticeable performance gains.

This manufacturing makes the T-9 Pro Mod ideal for use on heavier ATVs and UTVs, applications where spun aluminum wheels were formerly inappropriate. The T-9 Pro Mod is available in a wide variety of bolt patterns for many popular 4x4 ATVs as well as side-by-side UTVs such as the Yamaha Rhino, Kawasaki’s Teryx and Mule, and the Polaris Ranger and RZR. The T-9 Pro Mod is available in 12x7 and 14x7 sizing with 4+3 offsets.

About ITP:

Off-Road Vehicles Become More Eco-Friendly

With gas prices soaring and the emphasis on preserving the environment, more people are becoming “eco-friendly.” From the influx of Hybrid cars, energy-saving appliances and even more efficient light bulbs, Americans are taking notice of the environment and saving money in the process.

One of the trends seen in many retirement and gated communities is the use of electric vehicles in lieu of cars to get around. Many of these vehicles are your typical golf cart that gets around 35 miles between charges and can hold multiple passengers. The on-road use of electric vehicles is not new, but this trend has now hit the off-road community.

Known traditionally as “gas and oil” machines, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and Side-by-Sides are also starting to “go green.” Recently, Polaris Industries introduced their new RANGER EV, a Side-by-Side built specifically for clean and quiet operation.

With the largest battery pack in the industry (11.5 kilowatts), the longest range of any electric Midsize vehicle (50 miles), 25 mph top speed and two hours of riding time between charges, the RANGER EV operates at about $0.035 per mile versus $0.09 per mile on a comparable gas vehicle, making it not only more eco-friendly, but more economical.

“The RANGER EV was built due to the consumer demand for alternative-powered vehicles,” said Jan Rintamaki of Polaris. “When building the vehicle, we took our best-in-class Utility Side-by-Side vehicle and made it usable to a whole new community.”

In creating their first electric vehicle, Polaris wanted an electric Side-by-Side that kept all the attributes of its other RANGER vehicles. A common misconception of electric vehicles is the consumer has to give up performance or work-ability in exchange for economy.
Polaris set out to prove this wrong by giving the RANGER EV a 500 lb. cargo box with 1,250 lb. towing and 1,000 lb. total payload to ensure the vehicle had a strong work ethic. The unit also features three modes; High for speed, Low for towing and hauling, and Max for maximum range. On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive tackles harsh terrain and one-wheel, rear-wheel drive prevents damage to sensitive terrains, making the RANGER EV easier on the environment. And the model’s exclusive 48-volt, AC Induction motor provides high performance with low maintenance and can be charged using a standard 110 vac outlet.

The RANGER EV retails for $10,699 and is available at Polaris dealerships nationwide.

About Polaris

With annual 2008 sales of $1.9 billion, Polaris designs, engineers, manufactures and markets off-road vehicles (ORVs), including all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and the Polaris RANGER™, snowmobiles and Victory motorcycles for recreational and utility use.

Polaris is a recognized leader in the snowmobile industry; and one of the largest manufacturers of ORVs in the world. Victory motorcycles, established in 1998 and representing the first all-new American-made motorcycle from a major company in nearly 60 years, are rapidly making impressive in-roads into the cruiser and touring motorcycle marketplace.
Polaris also enhances the riding experience with a complete line of Pure Polaris apparel, accessories and parts, available at Polaris dealerships.

Holz Racing Products is proud to introduce their new Shoulder Harness Limit Straps

Lynden, WA - Holz Racing Products is proud to introduce their new Shoulder Harness Limit Straps. This simple and inexpensive strap helps prevents 4 and 5 point shoulder straps from sliding apart and falling off your shoulders when used with stock seats or aftermarket seats without shoulder strap slots.

The scenario that these straps are designed to fix happens frequently for those UTV owners that have stock seats, but have added a good set of restraints. As the UTV starts moving, there are many forces at work- Your seat padding starts to pack in, your safety harness starts to loosen, and your body moves and bounces as the vehicle tackles different terrain.

Meanwhile, the safety harness that has been designed to save you from utter disaster is now sliding apart and falling off your shoulders.

But not if you have this nifty little strap in place...

Strap is made of sewn nylon webbing. 16" overall length with 3" loops at each end.

Available in Black color only, sold 1 per seat/harness.

MSRP - $5.99 each.

Case IH Rolls out Utility Vehicle Line for 2010

Racine, WI - September 3, 2009 -- Check fields, haul feed, and go places a pickup can't get to, with a new Case IH Scout utility vehicle (UTV). This rugged line of four-wheel drive UTVs, sold exclusively through Case IH dealers, offers plenty of power, accessories to match any chore, and premium features at an affordable price. "And with a top end speed of 25 miles per hour, a new Case IH Scout will help you get more done in less time," says Shawn Boone, Case IH livestock marketing manager.

"For growers who already run red, we invite you to work, play and explore with a new Case IH Scout," Boone adds. "Put one to the farm test. We're confident it'll be a small, speedy complement to the bigger Case IH equipment already in your shed."

The new Case IH UTV lineup includes:

  • Case IH Scout - a two-passenger, 14 horsepower gasoline-powered mid-size UTV
  • Case IH Scout XL - available in two-passenger and four-passenger versions, with gas or diesel engines, with 23 hp gas/20 hp diesel

Famous family name
"We named them 'Scout' because that's what they help you do," Boone continues. "Scout your crops, scout your livestock, scout your hunting land. You can even equip a Case IH Scout with a Case IH AFS® receiver to mark your scouting notes on georeferenced field maps."

A Case IH Scout is also ideal for hauling feed, seed, tools and landscaping material, "Whatever you need to move, where ever you need to move it to," Boone notes. "Crop and livestock farmers, contractors, landscapers - anyone who demands more from their equipment - will appreciate a new Case IH Scout."

Boone says the name "Scout" has historical significance, and will be instantly recognizable to International Harvester collectors and fans. "The old International Scout was the world's first SUV, and many are still on the road today. The new Case IH Scout UTVs are worthy successors to the original Scout's legacy of power and dependability."

Case IH Scout model specifics
"With the Case IH Scout you get a safe, comfortable ride in rough terrain, smooth shifting, fast stopping and fuel savings - and it all fits in the back of your pickup truck," Boone says. The two-passenger Case IH Scout offers premium features in a compact size, including: MacPherson Strut front suspension and best-in-class independent rear suspension; a wide ratio CVT transmission for fuel efficiency and smooth shifting; hydraulic, four-wheel disk brakes; ROPS protection, retractable safety belts and Halogen headlamps.

For all the comfort, safety and fuel-saving features in a bigger box, there's the larger Case IH Scout XL. These also feature a wide ratio CVT transmission; hydraulic, four-wheel disk brakes; ROPS, retractable safety belts and headlamps; along with a double A-arm front suspension with coil overshocks for a comfortable ride; and a full-sized bed box with 800 lbs. (15.1 cu. ft.) of capacity - or 1,050 lbs. with the optional high capacity kit.

Accessories for any chore
A full range of Case IH Scout accessories is available, including: windshield, winch, front blade, bed dump, bed liner, camouflage, gun rack, brush guard, backup alarm and premium lighting such as fog lamps and turn signals. "Your Case IH dealer can customize a Case IH Scout to meet the unique demands of your farm, jobsite, hunting or recreational land - or all of the above," says Boone. Case IH Scout UTVs will be available from Case IH dealers in 2010.

Case IH is introducing a new line of rugged, four-wheel drive utility vehicles (UTV) available in two sizes, and sold exclusively through Case IH dealers. The compact two-passenger Case IH Scout UTV has a 14 hp gas engine, can reach 25 mph and fits in the back of a pickup truck. The Case IH Scout XL is available in two-passenger and four-passenger versions, with a 23 hp gas engine or a 20 hp diesel engine. Case IH Scout UTVs offer plenty of power, accessories to match any chore, and premium features at an affordable price.

Alba Action Sports has closed its doors to new vehicle sales

September 1, 2009 - Alba Action Sports has closed its doors this week. Alba owner Cory Hove would like to thank its customers for their patronage and support over the years. “We couldn’t have accomplished all that we have over the many years without the strong support of our customers.”

Alba Action has been in business for 19 years. Starting out as Alba Yamaha in Poway,

Alba Action soon outgrew its first location, and six years ago again relocated to the Scripps Poway Business Park. During the process, Alba became a multi-line dealer and gained a reputation as off-road ATV performance experts. For the past several years Alba has created over 200 of its own Alba Pro-Elite parts for the ATV and side by side enthusiast.

The dealership, although closed to new vehicle and parts sales, will remain open for service and performance business at its current location. Ownership has changed to Patrick Hove who along with Nate Martinez and Richard Morel have dedicated a combined total of 30 years at Alba Action. Plans are underway to find a smaller, more centralized and accessible location for this new venture.

Best In The Desert Championship Within Reach of Arctic Cat Prowler XTZ

Thief River Falls, MN (8/31/09) - Once a race team is the first to finish and win the Baja 1000 in the UTV class that should speak loud enough for the team and the durability of their Prowler. Not if you’re Jim Creagan and the Bipolar/Arctic Cat team. Currently second in the Best in the Desert points with three races remaining, this hard charging Prowler team is poised to take home another monumental championship in the Prowler XTZ 1000.

The team’s second place finish in the recent Vegas to Reno race came down to a neck and neck, 998 mile battle separating the two positions by 15 minutes. Deemed the longest, toughest, point-to-point race in the United States, danger-packed rocks, silt, sand and nastiness were dominated by the Prowler XTZ 1000.

“Bottom line, we wanted to win, but were really happy with the way the Prowler XTZ performed. Our stock 1000H2 engine is seriously fast and it makes our competitors nervous knowing this. If we hadn’t had a couple teething issues common to racing a new vehicle, we would have beat the first place competitor by three hours! It was a hell of a fun race,” said Creagan.

Team Arctic Race Coordinator, Ted Bettin said, “This 1900 UTV class is showing some true racing potential. Now that competitors are finally finishing races, the battles are raging right up until the checkered flag drops! We’re proud of the BiPolar Team and look forward to the next race.”

The BiPolar/Arctic Cat team is unofficially 6 points out of first place. The next race is the Bilek Racing Silver State 300, September 25-27, in Mesquite, Nevada.

Holz Clinches WORCS Championship with RANGER RZR S

Minneapolis, Minn., (9/1/2009) – Mark Holz and his Holz Racing RANGER RZR S took another “UTV Class 1” win and the overall clinching the WORCS 2009 Championship, at Straddleline ORV Park, in Olympia, Wash.

Holz clinched the championship with two rounds remaining due to his overwhelming point lead. He has four first-place and overall wins with a total of 98 points, 46 more points than second place.

“My RANGER RZR S performed perfectly all season and was dominant on the track. The power provided by the Kroyer modified engine allowed me to holeshot every race, even when we were up against 1000cc Side-by-Sides,” said Holz. “All in all it was a great season and I look forward to more racing in the future.”

Doug Eichner and his RANGER RZR S also are leading their WORCS division, “UTV 3,” with a total of 99 points. Eichner took first in the class at Straddleline and second overall.

The next WORCS race is September 25-27, in Devore, Calif. Holz’s next race is the Best In The Desert Silver State 300 September 25-27.

Holz’s Sponsors are Holz Racing Products, Kroyer Racing Engines, Polaris Industries, Fox Racing Shox, Maxxis Tires, Walker Evans Racing Wheels, Utendorfer Graphic Design, Gear Works.
