Arctic Cat Reports Fiscal 2010 First Quarter Results

MINNEAPOLIS - Arctic Cat Inc. (Nasdaq:ACAT) today reported a net loss of $5.9 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, on net sales of $69.4 million for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009. Arctic Cat reported a net loss in the fiscal 2009 first quarter of $7.0 million, or $0.39 per diluted share, on net sales of $93.9 million.
Commenting on the first quarter results, Arctic Cat’s chairman and chief executive officer Christopher A. Twomey said: “Economic conditions remained difficult during the quarter and continued to affect the recreational products market overall. Given the current recessionary environment, we are pleased with the company’s improved results on lower sales. We made significant progress on our goals to reduce our cost structure and strengthen the balance sheet.”
Among the highlights of Arctic Cat’s 2010 first quarter financial results versus the same quarter last year:

  • Operating expenses declined 23 percent to $16.2 million from $21.0 million;

  • Inventories were reduced 19 percent to $127.1 million from $156.2 million;

  • Total cash and short-term investments at quarter end increased to $7.9 million from $5.8 million; and

  • The company had no short- or long-term debt versus $12.1 million in short-term debt in the prior-year quarter.

“Through strong inventory management, expense controls and a rescaled business, we are on track to deliver improved operating results this fiscal year on lower sales,” said Twomey.
During the fiscal first quarter, Arctic Cat entered into an amended credit facility agreement on June 17, 2009, that extends the agreement until March 31, 2010, and increases the company’s borrowing capacity to $60 million.
Business Line Results
All-terrain vehicle (ATV) sales totaled $32.2 million in the first quarter versus $53.8 million in the same period last year, as Arctic Cat rescaled its business to align inventory levels with present wholesale and retail demand.
Commented Twomey: “With the current retail ATV sales slump driven by the recession, we are working harder than ever to offer consumers the innovative products they want, in the ATV segments that currently show some signs of improvement.” These include special-purpose recreational vehicles, such as Arctic Cat’s: side-by-side Prowler utility models; the two-rider TRV; as well as vehicles with large-displacement engines exemplified by Arctic Cat’s Thundercat 1000, which remains the industry’s most powerful engine. Pursuing this strategy, Arctic Cat expects to maintain or increase its North American ATV market share again this year.
Snowmobile sales were $17.9 million in the first quarter compared to $21.4 million in the prior-year quarter, due to economic factors. Although Arctic Cat anticipates lower worldwide snowmobile orders in fiscal 2010 as a result of the recession, the company expects to maintain or increase its North American market share by continuing to offer consumers leading-edge technologies, such as the new powered up 800cc engine which will be used in models across all market segments and aligns with the company’s reputation for offering the world’s fastest snowmobiles.
Sales of parts, garments and accessories (PG&A) in the first quarter were $19.3 million, up from $18.7 million in the prior-year quarter. To help fuel PG&A sales in fiscal 2010, Arctic Cat is expanding its product offerings to generate additional revenue and profit through the company’s established dealer network. The company’s new PG&A products include the Drift line of snowmobile garments, which is designed to appeal to more price-sensitive shoppers and has the potential to attract new customers. Also new for fiscal 2010 are two lubricant products.
Outlook
Arctic Cat is implementing operational efficiency initiatives aimed at returning the company to long-term profitability on lower anticipated sales volumes. The company’s fiscal 2010 outlook includes the following assumptions: the continuation of the weak global economic environment negatively impacting sales of recreational products; increasing gross margins up to 300 basis points through global low-cost sourcing, improved commodity pricing and greater efficiencies from lean manufacturing; achieving a 12 percent to 17 percent reduction in operating expenses; and improving cash flow from operations and ending the year with more cash on the balance sheet by lowering inventory.
Arctic Cat continues to estimate sales for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, in the range of $425 million to $460 million, based on achieving ATV sales of $188 million to $203 million, snowmobile sales in the range of $140 million to $152 million and PG&A sales of $97 million to $105 million. Arctic Cat has not provided fiscal 2010 earnings per share guidance, although the company expects improved per share results compared with fiscal 2009.
Commenting on the company’s outlook, Twomey said: “We continue to expect that this will be a challenging year for the recreational products industry in this recessionary economic environment. Near-term, we remain focused on conservatively managing our business to meet lower anticipated demand. We are continuing our efforts to improve the company’s operational performance. We also are taking appropriate actions to preserve cash and maintain dealer health, as well as developing select innovative products that position Arctic Cat to emerge as a stronger company once the economy recovers.”

Polaris 6x6 Workhorse Completely Redesigned for 2010

2010 Polaris RANGER 800 6x6: Updated styling, upgraded ergonomics and Dual A-arm front, middle and rear suspension with new 800cc EFI engine.

2010 Polaris RANGER 800 6x6In 2009, Polaris introduced the ruggedly re-engineered RANGER that was the hardest working and smoothest riding RANGER EVER built. For 2010, the RANGER 6x6 gets its turn.

The 2010 RANGER 800 6x6 receives a 15 percent power upgrade with the addition of the 800 twin EFI power plant. Along with the power boost, the new 6x6 works harder and is easier on the operator due to improved and thoughtful ergonomics designed to let the operator work longer and enjoy a better ride. Dual A-arm front suspension that was introduced last year on the RANGER XP and HD are now standard on the 6x6.

To create an exterior that could handle the nastiest work and most extreme riding conditions, the models offer the most-armored front end ever designed to protect vital components such as the radiator, cooling system and front differential. The front headlights were inset for added protection from rocks and branches, and the redesigned bumper with a heavy-duty bash plate offers dedicated vehicle tie down points, massive central tow hook and inset tow hook cage for additional front differential protection. For working at night or to get the hunting spot before daybreak, the vehicles offer auxiliary light mounting holes on the front bumper and bosses already installed for optional Halogen/LED distance headlights.

2010 Polaris RANGER 800 6x6
The new 6x6 features more seat and leg space, reoriented gas and brake pedal for improved operator comfort, new angled-back seat and a relocated brake lever for easy operation inside and outside of the vehicle. Polaris also redesigned the steering wheel for better steering with gloves and added standard tilt steering with the highest range of motion for maximum comfort. Along with tilt steering, the new models have a 50 percent easier steering effort which helps maneuverability in tight areas such as work sites or woods. RANGER 800 6x6 also is furnished with a new a new, truck-like job box between the cargo box and cab. The cargo box is rated for 1,250 pounds, while the job box handles an extra 250 pounds, and the boxes are Lock & Ride capable.

2010 Polaris RANGER 800 6x6
The RANGER 800 6x6 offers Independent Rear Suspension with motion ration adjustability on all six wheels. The new Dual A-Arm suspension has two upper shock mounting points for each wheel giving a motion ratio adjustment that dramatically increases the stiffness of suspension. The preload adjustment, available on each wheel, increases the initial spring compression for a 30 percent stiffer ride when needed. The new suspension allows for the maintenance of ground clearance (12 in/30.5 cm) and suspension travel (9.6 in/24.5 cm front, 9 in/22.9 cm rear) when carrying heavier loads and using accessories such as plows, cabs and sprayers for work applications. It also allows for easier use of after-market suspension packages. To combat ruts, stumps and rocks, the new RANGERs also offer anti-kickback steering that reduces feedback over bumps and makes the vehicle steerable with one hand.

2010 Polaris RANGER and RANGER RZR Line Up

New Products, More Power and ROPS Certified Cabs

Model Year 2010 brings more significant changes to Polaris’ RANGER line up with the introduction of two new utility RANGER Side-by-Sides, increased power to existing models, more redesigns, a RANGER XP with power steering and a faster top speed for RANGER RZR. All 2010 RANGERs and RANGER RZRs also come standard with a ROPS Certified Cab.
“With the introduction of two new products, more power for the utility line, the redesigned RANGER CREW and 6x6, and a new top speed for RANGER RZR, the 2010 line up picks up where the 2009 line up left off,” said Matt Homan, vice president and general manager of Polaris’ Off-Road division. “We continue to innovate our RANGER line to offer the most extensive Side-by-Side offering in the industry.”

Polaris RANGER 400

New for 2010, Polaris is introducing the value-priced, Midsize RANGER 400 and the company’s first electric vehicle, RANGER EV. Both of these units share the same, smaller, two-seat chassis, that fits in the back of a pickup truck, with many of the hardest working, smoothest riding features of their full-sized counterparts: On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive with VersaTrac, Independent Rear Suspension, heavy duty front end protection, high ground clearance and the longest suspension travel in their class.
The RANGER 400, although smaller in stature, delivers on the RANGER promise of “hardest working” with real work capabilities such as 500 lbs of cargo capacity, 1,000 lbs payload and 1,250 lbs. of towing, at an attractive $7,999 MSRP. The RANGER 400’s smaller size, 455cc high output, carbureted engine and value price make it an attractive work partner for hunting, farming, maintaining acreage or doing chores around the property. It boasts 29 horsepower and a top speed of 40 mph offering the rider plenty of get-up-and-go to ride to that favorite hunting spot, haul feed to livestock or just take a leisurely ride down the trail. Its On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive ensures it can tackle muddy pastures or rutted, rocky hunting trails, while the VersaTrac ensures you don’t tear up the grass. With a full-line of PURE Polaris products including Lock & Ride accessories, cabs, plows and a speed-regulating, Speed Key, the RANGER 400 can be outfitted to get any job done.
To complement its hard work ethic, the RANGER 400 has smoothest riding features such as Independent Rear Suspension, long suspension travel and high ground clearance to ensure a smooth ride and less fatigue on the operator and passenger, making it a true “Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding” Midsize RANGER.

Polaris RANGER EVPolaris RANGER EV

Sharing the same chassis as the RANGER 400, the all-new RANGER EV electric Side-by- Side is a first for Polaris. The unit features the largest battery pack in the industry (11.5 kilowatts) and has the longest range of any electric Midsize. Built for clean and quiet operation, and full of hardest working, smoothest riding features, the RANGER EV is perfect for hunters and homeowners with acreage. With its 30 horsepower electric motor, 35-45 mile range, 25 mph top speed and two hours of riding time between charges, the RANGER EV will transport hunters and their gear to and from their hunting site with fewer disturbances to game. The unit also features a three modes; High for speed, Low for towing and hauling, and Max for maximum range. For harsh terrain, such as muddy fields on the way to fix the fence or trails full of rocks and stumps leading to the tree stand, the RANGER EV features On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive. For more sensitive terrains and a better turning radius, RANGER EV has VersaTrac with one-wheel, rear-wheel drive to prevent damage and also better navigate tight areas often encountered in the woods. The RANGER EV has a 500 lb. Lock & Ride cargo box with 1,250 lb. towing and 1,000 lb. total payload making hauling hunting gear or game a breeze; and the model’s exclusive 48-volt, AC Induction motor provides high performance with low maintenance and can be charged using a standard 110 vac outlet. For quick charges between rides, PURE Polaris is offering a quick charge kit for RANGER 400 to get you back on the trails.
In 2009, Polaris introduced the ruggedly re-engineered RANGER that was the hardest working and smoothest riding RANGER EVER built, and introduced the new RANGER HD, the ultimate heavy-duty utility vehicle with a self leveling rear suspension and power steering. This year, the company powered up the RANGER 4x4 (now called RANGER 500 H.O.) with a 500 H.O engine and added an 800 EFI engine across the rest of the line. The RANGER 4x4 gets a 13 percent power increase with the 500 H.O. engine, and the RANGER XP (now called RANGER 800 XP) receives a 15 percent power upgrade with the addition of the 800 twin EFI power plant. The 800cc engine also has been added to the RANGER 800 HD, RANGER 800 CREW and RANGER 800 6x6 solidifying the “Hardest Working” RANGER promise.
Along with the power boost, Polaris has added a RANGER 800 XP model with Polaris’ exclusive electronic power steering with variable assist. The system allows for one-finger steering at low speeds and eliminates feedback at high speeds so the operator can work longer and enjoy the ride.
Polaris also expanded the work, ride and improved ergonomics from the 2009 RANGER XP and introduced Dual A-arm front suspension to the six-passenger RANGER 800 CREW and RANGER 800 6x6.

Polaris RANGER 800 6x6
The RANGER 800 CREW and 6x6 work harder and are easier on the operator due to improved and thoughtful ergonomics designed to let the operator work longer and enjoy a better ride. The new models feature more seat and leg space including two-inches more for back-seat passengers on the RANGER 800 CREW, reoriented gas and brake pedal for improved operator comfort, new angled-back seat and a relocated brake lever for easy operation inside and outside of the vehicle.
Polaris RANGER 800 Crew
To make the smoothest ride in the industry even smoother, Polaris outfitted the new RANGER 800 CREW and 6x6 with exclusive adjustable Dual A-Arm front suspension in addition to its legendary smooth independent rear suspension. Exclusive to RANGER line, the RANGER 800 CREW features motion ratio and preload suspension adjustment front and rear while the RANGER 800 6x6 offers Independent Rear Suspension with motion ration adjustability on all six wheels.
While the 2010 RANGER utility line works harder, the 2010 RANGER RZR line plays harder with even more RZR sharp performance. Last model year, Polaris introduced the RANGER RZR S, the ultimate, pure-sport Side-by-Side built for the desert, dunes and open spaces to complement the 50-inch, trail-capable RANGER RZR. For 2010, RANGER RZR achieves a new top speed of 60 mph and both units feature a ROPS certified cab.
Polaris also will offer a variety of Limited Edition models for their 2010 line up. On the utility side, the RANGER 800 XP Limited Editions include Pearl White, Navy/Sandstone and a Browning Edition. The RANGER 800 CREW will be available in Sandstone Metallic. RANGER RZR Limited Editions include Tequila Gold and Turbo Silver, and Orange Madness for RANGER RZR S.

Two New Classes Added For Vegas to Reno The Long Way

With about a month to go before the thrilling Vegas to Reno - The Long Way!! race, two new classes have been added to the roster to accommodate two exciting groups of vehicles. Wide Open Excursions, best known for their corporate Baja adventure trips, will compete in a new class called Baja Challenge. This is a Pro Class featuring the identically prepared “arrive and drive” Wide Open race vehicles. They will be competing in U.S. for the first time ever to celebrate this special running of the famous Vegas to Reno race. After racing in Baja for years, five teams to date have committed to head north of the border and take on the challenge of “The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States.”
Ultra 4 is a new sportsman class for the wild “King of the Hammers” (KOH) endurance race vehicles. These unique vehicles are a cross breed of rock crawler and desert racer. Vegas to Reno - The Long Way!! is actually a qualifying event in order to gain a starting spot in the 2010 Hammers race. So far, 11 Ultra 4 entries have signed up for Vegas to Reno - The Long Way!! including a team from Australia.
Festivities each evening include live music sponsored by Speed Technologies, plus an impressive hospitality area sponsored by Red Bull with their energy drinks. There will also be a Beer Garden, and for those nondrinkers,a great place for root beer or a root beer float, sponsored by TSCO and Rebel Malting & Brewing, and Lance Jergensen, Little Brother to Todd Jergensen. The soon-to-be-announced “Camp Adventure” locations will let spectators, racers and their teams take in the Nevada desert’s beautiful sunsets, and it offer the opportunity to meet and converse with some of the world’s most talented racers.
Each day will hold new challenges for the racers, as they traverse more than 300 miles, stop overnight at “Camp Adventure” and then head into Reno, Nevada, to a brand new official finish located at the Dayton, Nevada Event Center, where team members and fans can help celebrate. A big thank you to TSCO, sponsors of this prestigious event for the eighth year in row, who also heartily support and look forward to the staged event concept.
The first day, racers will run 331 miles and stop for the night at Tonopah, Nevada, sponsored by McMillin Racing. The second day the course is 361 miles, with an overnighter at Hawthorne, Nevada, sponsored by KC Hilites. The last leg runs 300 miles and ends in Reno, Nevada, sponsored by Speed Technologies. Each of the nights at “Camp Adventure” will offer the opportunity to make some repairs, strategize for the next day’s route, and set the racer’s minds at rest ... if they can get some sleep! Each night’s action includes live music, Red Bull hospitality, a beer garden featuring both hops and root style, and more surprises coming.
The experience in your race vehicle at this event will be a life-changing one you will never forget. The question is, are you and your team ready for the challenge?

Add Cooling Capacity to your Polaris RZR with a Fluidyne Radiator

Fluidyne Radiator for Polaris RZR
POLARIS RZR GAINS 53 PERCENT MORE COOLANT CAPACITY WITH FLUIDYNE® POWERSPORTS RADIATOR

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (July 16, 2009) - Peak engine performance is only achieved at optimal coolant temperatures.Like many UTV motors, the RZRs 760cc Twin sometimes struggles to accelerate its half-ton of side-by-side fun and remain properly cooled in less-than-optimal conditions, such as when slogging through mud holes or hammering around the dunes. At various levels, this can lead to overheating, short-term power loss, premature oil breakdown or worse.
To ward off these worries, FLUIDYNE® Powersports new Polaris RZR radiator was developed to enhance low-air-flow driving conditions and provide consistent cooling in high-speed.
Boasting increased width at 38mm deep (12mm deeper than stock), 32-tube core, this beefy unit has 53 percent more fluid capacity (1360cc vs. 887cc) to significantly lower coolant temperatures. These upgraded specs are bolstered by FLUIDYNE''s® unique, positive-sealing, internal, splitter-plate design which ensures that every ounce of fluid circulates through its core.
FLUIDYNE''s® new RZR radiator is also stronger and more durable than its OEM counterpart. Constructed from aircraft-quality aluminum, structural improvements include thicker materials throughout and beaded hose connections for leak-proof sealing. These components are held together with beefy TIG welds to withstand extreme conditions and produce a crash survival rate far exceeding the OEM unit. The kit also includes two aluminum spacers that shim the heat-sensitive black box out of harm''s way.
Not only does FLUIDYNE® Powersports'' new RZR radiator out-cool and outlast the stock unit, it comes with a one-year warranty and installs easily, utilizing the factory mounts, hardware and fan assembly.
Winners in the 2009 Baja 500 Utility ATV and Open Pro Motorcycle classes, FLUIDYNE® Powersports radiators have been proven around the world. Developed and manufactured in the United States, they are built upon 50 years of experience in vehicular fluid dynamics.Available for the Polaris RZR and other late-model side-by-side vehicles, ATVs and motorcycles, FLUIDYNE® Powersports radiators are sold through dealers nationwide. When the heat is on, FLUIDYNE® Powersports radiators keep things cool.

Environmentalists want OHVs banned from Oceano Dunes

Jul. 13, 2009
The Associated Press

PISMO BEACH, Calif. At one Central Coast beach, birds and buggies aren't mixing.
Advocates for the threatened Western snowy plover want off-road vehicles totally banned from the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, saying the dune buggies and motorcycles are a danger to the tiny bird.
Environmentalists say bird monitors have observed plovers crushed and terrorized by vehicles. For more than 10 years, lawsuits and other measures have cut down off-road areas used for recreation by thousands of acres. Fencing now borders the plover nesting areas.Still, as many as 40,000 visitors turn the dunes near Pismo Beach into on off-road mecca each summer weekend.
John Hodgson, parts manager at an ATV rental chain that thrives on park traffic, said employees go to City Council meetings to fight for beach off-roading. For others, keeping the few remaining dunes open is personal.
"I'd rather have the riding area, where people can grow with their families and have fun, rather than some bird that we've never even seen out here," said George Lopez, a visitor who has been coming to the park for a dozen years.
The California budget squeeze is forcing closure of some state parks. Funded by gasoline taxes, however, Oceano Dunes is not on the closure list.
The Sierra Club's Mark Massara says it's "a cruel twist of fate," noting the only state park "dedicated to environmental destruction and climate roasting" is unscathed.
Weighing less than two ounces, plovers are a polarizing issue for a park that draws 2 million visitors annually.
"There are really only two sides to this thing," said Andrew Zilke, superintendent at the park. "You either love it or you hate it."

Nevada: Governor Gibbons vetos OHV registration bill

A bill to require registration and licensing of up to 400,000 off-highway vehicles in Nevada has been vetoed by Gov. Jim Gibbons, who said it calls for new fees and which is not something he supports. Senate Bill 394 was supported by rider groups, power sports dealers, law enforcement agencies, the Nevada Conservation League, the Nevada Association of Counties, the Nevada Cattleman's Association and the Nevada Farm Bureau.

The money that would have been raised from the fees would have gone into a dedicated OHV fund which would have been overseen by an 11-member commission appointed by the governor.

California Desert Receives $8.3 million OHV Grant

July 9, 2009 - The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) California Desert District will receive about $8.3 million in grants from California's Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Program, BLM's California Desert District manager, Steve Borchard, announced today."We're grateful for the award of the OHV grants," said Borchard. "With these funds we can improve the recreational experience for off-highway enthusiasts, while ensuring we protect the diversity of species that inhabit the California Desert. As managers of our public lands, we at BLM also have a special responsibility to preserve these areas for multiple uses, including such non-motorized activities as hiking, backpacking, hang gliding, hunting, rock hounding, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, photography, rock climbing, and mountain biking. OHV grants will enhance access for these activities."About $3.2 million in OHV grants will go toward the operation and maintenance of designated routes that reduce impacts upon wildlife and their habitats. In addition, the grants will provide support services for high-quality OHV programs in recreation areas such as Dumont Dunes, El Mirage, and Imperial Sand Dunes. California's OHV Recreation Program, a division of California State Parks, awarded BLM about $1.3 million to ensure protection of visitors at OHV recreation areas and to protect the natural resources of public lands through law enforcement.Another $3.8 million was awarded BLM for restoration, education, and safety projects. The California Desert District comprises 67 wilderness areas, all of which were closed to OHV use upon designation in 1994. However, 1,400 trails and ways crossed the 4,000 miles of wilderness boundary, encouraging illegal egress by desert OHV users. The BLM will employ boundary signing, preparation and distribution of current maps, education and outreach, 'hard barrier' [e.g., fences, barricades], a law enforcement presence, and 'soft barrier' [vertical mulch] construction as part of its restoration efforts.Education and safety projects include a junior ranger program that will deliver National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council messages to elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as children and parents visiting public lands.Program funding for OHV grants comes from fuel taxes attributable to the recreational use of vehicles off highway, off-highway vehicle registration fees, and fees collected at State Vehicular Recreation Areas.

McRae Enduro announces an all-new Dakar T1 Lightweight contender

‘It’s an all-new car, to meet the FIA’s new regulations for ‘Lightweight 4x2s’, explains McRae’s Commercial Director, Christopher Bibb. ‘Since bringing 3 out of 4 cars home on our Dakar debut, we’ve been working on upgrading the McRae Enduro with V8 diesel power, and this wholly new car for this wholly new FIA category.
‘The new FIA category and this car are solutions for the difficult economic times we live in’, continues Bibb. ‘But it’s something we have been working on for quite some time: we were testing in Tunisia last Summer’. The new car is a single-seater and targets, among others, bikers seeking to move onto four wheels. Meeting newly introduced T1 regulations for lightweight cars, the McRae 4x2 weighs around 600kg in Dakar trim and is powered by a 140hp liquid-cooled snowmobile motor.
‘The FIA and the ASO have worked remarkably quickly to get the new regulations in place for Dakar 2010. And the response from drivers, riders and potential sponsors has been extraordinary’ comments Alister McRae. ‘Firstly the Dakar-ready price of €65 000.00 makes sense right now, but it’s when people experience just how fast, fun and capable the car is that they decide they just must have one’. Innovative, fast but inexpensive, the single-seat machine comes with all navigational equipment and as such is ideal for the biker seeking to move onto four wheels; the young driver moving into FIA Baja and Cross Country events; or even the experienced Dakar driver seeking to remain competitive, have great fun, and finish – all on a tight budget. For others’ it’s the sheer simplicity and lightweight nature of the machine that’s so seductive. CVT relies on a Kevlar reinforced drive belt. If you don’t have a gearbox, you can’t break it’, says Bibb ‘CVT is lighter, boosts fuel efficiency and delivers peak torque at all times – which means it works in very soft sand. The result is that we can benefit from the high performance and legendary reliability of Japanese motorcycle engine technology’.
One of the first Dakar entrants to select the new McRae 4x2 is former MotoGP star Jurgen van den Goorbergh: This car is just the most fun; more than any other car I have ever tested! It comes so close to the drive-ability of a bike, that it will suit my driving style. The suspension and sheer speed it produces over bumps and in the sand is amazing. Meanwhile the sensation of being your own navigator, like being on a motorbike, gives me a new challenge to push myself to the limit. In testing in the Sahara, it simply didn’t get stuck until I did something silly’, says Dutch Dakar veteran and ProDakar team manager Chris Leyds. ‘And when we managed to get it stuck, it’s so light the driver can simply lift the front and walk the car sideways. There is no need for expensive on-board jacking systems, we use an exhaust-inflated air bag’.Chris Leyd’s ProDakar team is offering turn-key Dakar rentals from €110 000.00. We have sold quite a few cars, but we will be offering six 4x2s for rental. We are keen to cater for the former motorcyclist wanting to switch to four wheels. Too many motorcyclists leave the sport because, until now, cars have been either too expensive and or too boring to drive! You better believe the McRae 4x2 is a wild ride, but it’s also close to the true spirit of Dakar: one man and his machine against the elements’. The new McRae 4x2 is a bespoke mid-engined chassis concept, based on the successful Rage Motorsport product. Rage manufacture the chassis behalf of McRae Enduro Limited. The new McRae 4x2 will be formally unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in England July 3, and a number of machines have been readied to take part on Baja Espana.

More recently, you can see Greg drive the #10 Pro-2 short course race truck in the Lucas Oil and TORC series. “My family has been involved in the off-road industry since the early 60’s, either selling parts to the off roaders or taking our personal vehicles up the rocks or down the trails”, stated Adler. He added “ORBA is very important to us be make sure we continue to be the voice of the people that enjoy taking their vehicles off-road. On any given weekend, you can see family’s camping, riding, and spending time with friends. It is important that ORBA helps maintain these qualities of life and I look forward to helping in this cause.”

Steve Myers has been racing actively in the off-road industry for the past 27 years. Three generations of his family have raced various vehicle classes in various venues such as Best In The Desert, SCORE and Dakar. Smithsburg, MD Town Council OKs Purchase of Yamaha Rhino for Police

Yamaha Rhino
July 7, 2009 - Smithsburg Town Council members on Tuesday night gave Smithsburg Police Chief George L. Knight Jr. permission to purchase to obtain a Yamaha Rhino utility vehicle, which can be used to patrol off-road areas and respond to emergencies in remote areas. The small town of Smithsburg is surrounded by rolling hills, farm land and open space so the Rhino will be perfect for reaching areas off the pavement.

Yamaha is contributing to this growing trend through its Law Loan Program, which loans Rhino Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicles and other Yamaha products to law enforcement, fire fighters and other agencies free of charge, and its Government Order Program, which helps supply vehicles at a discount to relevant government agencies. These programs have helped put more than 600 Rhinos into service inless than three years.

Targeted for general utility and recreational use by farmers, ranchers, and hunters, the Rhino has cultivated broad-based consumer appeal since itsintroduction, and today is the best selling SxS on the market.

Arctic Cat cuts 60 jobs

Arctic Cat, Inc. said it has cut 60 jobs following a three-month period in which the company suffered a net loss of more than $16.7 million.
The jobs represent about 5 percent of Arctic Cat’s 1,200-person workforce.
Sales for the Plymouth-based maker of ATVs and snowmobiles totalled $90.7 million in its most recent quarter, down from $168.9 million during the same quarter last year.
Arctic Cat lost 93 cents per share in its fiscal 2009 fourth quarter, compared to a 2 cent per share gain in the fourth quarter of last year.
Not including a 10 cent per share one-time charge, the fourth quarter loss would have only been 83 cents per share and beat the 89 cents per share loss predicted by analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
Chairman and CEO Christopher Twomey said in a statement the company has reduced product inventories and braced for a difficult fiscal 2010.
“We do not expect any meaningful recover in the recreational products market in the year ahead,” he said.
Arctic Cat projects sales in the range of $425 million to $460 million for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, significantly less than the $563.6 million it had in its fiscal 2009.

Shares of Arctic Cat (Nasdaq: ACAT) were down 20 cents per share, or 4.4 percent, to $4.34 per share in afternoon trading.

California Budget Shortfall May Take Its Toll on OHV Program

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 1, 2009) California State Parks has said that because of a severe budget shortfall, over 200 state parks will need to close. Until now, there was no suggestion of removing funds that support the State Vehicular Recreation Areas (SVRAs) and the other local and federal areas that depend on support from the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) trust fund to remain in operation. Yesterday, the Administration announced that Governor would veto the Vehicle License Fee and that funds to keep State Parks open will be found elsewhere.

Send the Governor’s office a clear message that raiding the OHV trust fund is not acceptable. California’s OHV Program is a nationwide model because it is funded solely by users and helps manage OHV recreation statewide. Raiding the trust fund will result in the loss of OHV opportunity and management on millions of acres of county and federal lands. This means the elimination or reduction of trail maintenance, law enforcement and resource protection activities statewide.

Earlier this year the OHV trust fund was raided by the Legislature to lend the general fund $90 million that had been set aside for acquiring new properties. And now after that money has been sacrificed to the current budget crisis, the OHV community in California is being asked to give more!

California residents are urged to contact the Governor and ask him not to destroy the OHV program, which is one completely self funded program and receives no support from the state’s General Fund. The Governor can be reached by at 916-558-3160 or by e-mail at governor@governor.ca.gov.

New Billet Center Beadlock Wheel from OMF Performance

OMF Type R Beadlock WheelHere is the latest offering in OMF Performance’s line of Billet Center 12” wheels.

The Type R Billet Center, like their original Billet Center, is built from aircraft grade 3/8” thick 6061-T6 aluminum plate making them extremely strong. In this case, all that strength comes in at a slightly lighter weight than their original billet center, which we all know is a good thing. You can purchase the Type R Billet Center as a complete wheel, or, if you have a set of the OMF Performance Billet Center wheels you can purchase just this new center to update the look of your existing wheels. Custom colors and finishes are available, contact OMF Performance Products for details.
