It doesn’t happen very often that a new riding area opens up, especially in California. Well if the owners of Ione Sands have their way, we may get a world class off-road facility in northern California.
I was invited out to preview the event by Paul Hart of Harts UTV in late July. The area seen in the video below is just a small fraction of the total acreage available for off-road use. Ione Sands MX is in the concept stages, testing the feasibility of a world class training, testing, and filming facility for professional off road riders, trainers, OEM’s, and race manufacturers.
The concept of a private track with full hookup RV camping isn’t new, but is very exciting since the track is about 30 minutes from where I live.
Ione Sands is on US Mine Corp property and is being converted to off-road use as mining operations phase out. There are thousands of acres in play here so think of it as a potential venue for racing like Hangtown MX, Ultra4 Racing and WORCS and more. The UTV market is exploding and riders are hungry to race both at amateur and professional levels. This property has a wide variety of terrain and track material to utilize for short course, desert and rock crawling.
