Rounding out the 2012 Best in the Desert season, the Henderson 250 was the last race on schedule. Even though it is only a 135 mile race for UTV’s, it seemed to be the most anticipated and exciting of all year due to the points battle that was taking place in the Pro UTV class. After winning the Blue Water Desert Challenge, the Cognito team was actually in the battle for a season championship, if all of the cards were to fall in our favor. To say the least, the Cognito team did some extensive strategizing and prepping before this battle!

Leaving the starting line in pairs, The Cognito Polaris RZR XP 4 left the line in the 5th starting position, drag racing with the Cognito car of team mate Sean Cook. We beat Sean out of the pairing section and charged toward the front runners. With speeds exceeding 80 mph, by the end of lap one we had passed all and led the race for quite some time until the boys from Jagged X caught up and overtook our position. This was a fast race and I am sure all were pushing the pace 110%, we sure were. With what appeared to be a flawless race from both Jagged X cars, our flawless race just wasn’t quite enough to take a win. We crossed the finish line in 3rd place physically, but the Coastal team was coming in with heat and in corrected time scored 3rd place which pushed us back to 4th. We lost 3rd place by 7 seconds, and lost the win by less than 2 minutes in nearly a 3 hour race! Our car worked great, not a single flat tire in the last 2 races thanks to ITP! Congrats to winner Matt Parks, and congrats to Kiger/Holts for taking the season championship. Our 4th place finish in this race with the Coastal Polaris just in front of us secured the championship for a Polaris car. If we had pushed even harder and not let them make up 8 seconds on us, the Can-Am Commander of the Murray brothers would have taken that championship, tight season!

Just a quick recap of the season, our finish at the Parker 250 was 7th place and was our first BITD finish. The 2nd race of the season was the Mint 400 where we took 4th place, then the 3rd race of the season we suffered a DNF. Next the 4th race was Vegas to Reno’s 534 mile blast where we finished 4th place. The 5th race was the Blue Water Desert Challenge where we scored a 1st place win! Then the Henderson 250 we earned 4th place and settled for 4th place in the season championship points. We have been fortunate enough to have a solid race team along with solid sponsors like Polaris Industries, Fox Racing Shox, ITP Tires and Wheels, Rigid Industries Lighting, Rugged Radios, Muzzys, Summers Brothers Racing, DJ Safety, Joes Racing Products, Mystic Lubricants and Wholesale Fuels, and Eibach Springs. We can’t thank you all enough!
