CAN-AM DEFENDER XT-P

Can-Am Defender XT-P HD10

The next step in Defender performance is here—the top-shelf Rotax HD10 V-Twin engine powering an upgraded FOX PODIUM suspension and numerous interior and exterior upgrades factory-engineered to extend its capabilities—and fun—any day of the week.

Designed equally with power, comfort and convenience, the 2018 Can-Am Defender XT-P HD10 easily provides on the family’s Tough, Capable and Clever promise, but does so with a distinctively sporty edge, FOX 2.0 Podium shocks and a stimulating Carbon Black & Can-Am Red finish. Its 72-hp Rotax HD10 V-Twin is specifically tuned for serious work, but also offers 61 lb-ft torque and peak torque at lower RPM for optimal delivery for recreational applications.

HEAVY-DUTY ROTAX V-TWIN ENGINE

In the Defender XT-P, the 72-hp Rotax HD10 V-Twin is still specifically tuned for serious work, but gains more responsive tuning for active, sport-oriented riding. The Defender can do that sort of riding, too, but how? Torque.

SMART-LOK TECHNOLOGY

For next-level traction to conquer the roughest terrain, Can-Am-exclusive Smart-Lok™* technology is the new benchmark. A true full lockable on-the-fly front differential with electronically-controlled automatic modes, or with the simple press of a button that offers preset, intelligent calibrations for your type of riding. Using multiple input sources, “Smart mode” will instantaneously engage locking with the right load at the right moment. Never before have riders been given maximum traction while retaining low-speed maneuverability.

A CHASSIS TO COUNT ON

It starts at the structure: Defender is an extremely capable off-road vehicle and a legitimate workhorse because of its automotive-like technology and fabrication tolerances that are in line with modern pickup trucks. The high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) grade steel means a more rigid design made to handle the strain of heavy-duty jobs. Can-Am engineers put the Defender frame through the new rigorous Utility Test Cycle on winter and summer testing grounds to ensure its toughness—and it shows.

SLAY THE COURSE

Delivering the responsive, thrilling feel of an enthusiast-oriented machine is a Can-Am thing. It’s been in our DNA from the beginning, in fact, which is why the XT-P has been re-tuned to return even higher levels of enjoyment when out on the trail.

ROTAX AT YOUR COMMAND

With the power of the Rotax HD10 at your back and Visco-Lok 4WD underfoot, there’s different ways to use all of it: Work, ECO, and Normal driving modes maximize response depending on the situation. Work mode gives full power and prioritizes low-down control and response, key for towing, hauling, and maneuvering with ease; ECO helps to save fuel and remain easy on terrain.

2.0 FOR A REASON

FOX Racing makes the ultimate in off-road suspension, and for the first time, we’ve fitted FOX PODIUM 2.0 shocks to the Defender. With 12 inches (30.5 cm) of ground clearance and increased responsiveness and durability in rough terrain, they’re a serious upgrade for our work-grade side-by-side vehicle.

BRING IT, ALL OF IT

The Defender has a total of up to 16.2 US gal (61.3 L)—including a handy, removable and water-resistant 1.7 gal (6.3 L) toolbox, an industry exclusive—to carry tools and supplies directly where they’re needed. In addition, we include 6 gal (22.8 L) of under-dash storage with an enclosed pocket, under-seat storage, and enclosed storage above the gauges.

THE CARGO BOX THAT CAN

Can-Am is rightfully proud of the Defender’s highly durable dump cargo box with a stout 600-lb (272.2 kg) load capacity. Strategic features include 5-gal (18.9 L) pail recesses, integrated anchors on the sidewalls, and several tie-down points for added convenience. Integrated recesses allow you to use the space as needed, allowing for both 1×3 and plywood separators and bed extenders to extend the bed’s overall dimensions. The tailgate is even capable of withstanding ordinary farm use and serving as a seat on breaks (max weight: 250 lb / 113kg)

READY TO RUMBLE

The XT-P’s heavy duty front bumper demands attention and respect wherever it goes. For added durability, this upgrade gives Defender owners even less reason to fear the unknown.

PROTECT WHAT COUNTS

There’s nothing better for ultimate off-road performance than fitting an ultra-durable full skid plate—so that’s what we did. You can thank us later.

ULTIMATE TECHNIQUE

Sliders protect the sides and undercarriage against large obstacles, and the Defender XT-P is rocking a pair of heavy duty aluminum rock sliders and an integrated step for elevated cargo box access.

Dressed to the nines in its Carbon Black & Can-Am Red X Package configuration (seating trim, graphics), this utility-recreation animal is functionally outfitted with key components (integrated protective gear/cast-aluminum wheels/FOX shocks) to heighten the adventure. Three driving modes, an efficient power steering system and a proven PRO-TORQ transmission make the Defender XT-P vehicle a versatile performer for work and recreation. It has a starting price of $18,499 USD / $22,099 CAD.
